Google recently released the new Android 15 operating system for its Pixel smartphones, causing serious problems for some users.
After the update, some Pixel 6 users wrote on Reddit that their devices suddenly stopped working. Tech portal Android Police reported several cases of smartphones becoming completely non-functioning after updates.
For some users, the problem occurred immediately after installation, while for others it occurred after activating the new “Private Spaces” feature. This is essentially to ensure greater security by providing a protected environment for applications and sensitive data. Affected smartphones are said to no longer power on or respond to any input.
Previous attempts at solutions failed
Affected users have tried various methods to get their devices working again. Resetting to factory settings, connecting to a computer, or pressing the power and volume buttons at the same time have no effect. The smartphone remains completely inoperable.
Google has yet to officially comment on the reported issues. It's unclear whether the company is already working on a solution. The exact cause of the failure has not yet been determined.
Different models have different effects
While the Pixel 6 is affected by serious issues, other models' bugs are less severe. On Pixel 8 Pro, the back gesture sometimes no longer works after the update. However, this error can be corrected by turning gesture controls off and on again.
No major issues have been reported with the current Pixel 9 series and Pixel tablets. Some apps initially did not work properly after the update, but this issue has been fixed with so-called patches.
Here's what those affected can do
Despite the current difficulties, Android 15 also brings important improvements. The update includes new security features, including improved two-factor authentication protection.
Pixel 6 users who haven't installed the update should initially avoid installing Android 15 until Google officially comments on the issue and provides a solution.
Anyone who has been affected by these issues should contact Google Support directly. If the device is still under warranty, it can be replaced or repaired for free. Otherwise you may have to pay for repairs.
