The famous actor, 67, was furious when he remembered how badly his daughter Olivia, 35, now a casting director, treated him on set.

When asked what the most “underrated” role in the film industry is, Richard is quick to say that it's actually about runners.

A production runner is a producer who works behind the scenes to assist the director and perform various tasks while told.

But Richard, who has worked with a number of collaborators throughout his career, said they often do the hardest work of all.

The famous actor was furious as he recalled how badly his daughter Olivia, 35, – who is now a casting director – was treated while working on a set for two years.

He told Sky News: 'The runners who paid the least. They are the youngest, they arrive at five in the morning and they are the last to leave.

And if something goes wrong, they get shit from dizzying heights.

'I know this because my daughter was a runner for two years and was terrified by some very famous names who changed their minds when they found out who her father was.

'It got worse. That made me hate those people even more.”

Richard shares Olivia with Joan Washington, 35, who died in 2021 after a battle with stage four lung cancer. Joan has a stepson, Tom, from her previous marriage.

The actor admitted that he once confronted a well-known name and criticized him for his behavior.

He added: “I met someone who, yes, will never speak to him again.”

Olivia has worked on the Apple TV+ series Masters Of The Air and the recent Lee Miller biopic, Lee.

Their close family will be attending events like the Baftas together in 2019 with Olivia, Richard and Joan.

Olivia recently married her long-term partner Florian Wirst in a “magical” home ceremony.

Richard has previously revealed the “wonderful magic” he has experienced since his late wife's death.

Dialect coach Joan tragically passed away at the age of 75, eight months after being diagnosed with cancer.

The actor told how his wife gave him words to live by in the days before his death, which helped him overcome the 'abyss of pain'.

Speaking on Joe Paul's Breakfast Show with Helena Bonham Carter, he said: “She told me four days before she died, she told my daughter and me: 'I know you're going to be sad, but try to find a little pocket of happiness every day”.

“It's been a wonderful time to go through the last 15 months of grief and I'm grateful for that.”
