A recent study found a growing trend in the practice of the Olympic Games. Between 2023 and 2024 the number of attendees at the Olympic Games increased by 83%. Boxing was the most prominent style, with registrations increasing by 178%.
During the Olympic period, this interest increased further with a 27% increase in searches for physical activities related to Olympic sports compared to the first quarter of the year. These figures clearly demonstrate the significant impact that major sporting events have on the population's exercise habits.
“Highly visible events like the Olympic Games create a strong influence on society, drawing attention to sports that are often overlooked in everyday life. This increase in interest makes people want to adopt healthy habits, overcome challenges and enjoy the emotions of the game,” commented Felipe Calbucci, CEO Latam of Totalpass, who promoted the research.
The research was conducted by analyzing data from the TotalPass app and examining how users use the site to register for the Olympics.
Among the most popular Olympic sports, the following stand out:
career
The race begins with a proper warm-up to prevent injuries. It is important to maintain proper posture with shoulders relaxed and arms aligned. During training it is essential to control both speed and breathing to achieve optimal performance. “In addition to strengthening the cardiovascular system and increasing lung capacity, running contributes to mental health and improves self-esteem, and is an essential exercise to balance body and mind,” says Ana Carolina Matos, physical education expert at Totalpass.
Gym
“Gymnastics is a sport that requires extreme commitment, which includes strength, flexibility, balance and coordination, in addition to mastering complex acrobatic movements,” explains the expert. The benefits are extensive: in addition to strengthening muscles and improving coordination, gymnastics increases self-confidence and the ability to perform physically and mentally, making it ideal for those who are always looking for new challenges.
Martial arts
Martial arts are a journey towards improvement and self-knowledge. They require discipline, self-control and endurance, as well as combat techniques and self-defense skills. “The benefits are profound: in addition to improving self-defense skills, martial arts improve physical fitness, discipline and reflexes, making students stronger and more confident,” he adds.
Boxing
“Boxing is a sport that requires effort and dedication. It involves not only the development of strength, agility and endurance, but also the ability to cope with the stress of a fight,” observes the expert. Boxers not only strengthen their muscles and improve cardiovascular endurance, but they also learn self-control, discipline and quick reflexes.
olympic weightlifting
Olympic weightlifting is one of the oldest disciplines in the Olympic Games. It requires explosive strength, flexibility and precise technique, especially in movements like the snatch and clean and jerk, which require rigorous training to avoid injury and achieve peak performance. “Despite the challenges, the benefits are enormous, including strengthening muscles, increasing strength and balance, as well as improving self-control and discipline,” highlights the expert.
Volleyball (Court and Beach)
Volleyball, most popular in Brazil, requires a set of skills including strength, endurance, agility and team spirit. “Volleyball training not only strengthens muscles and improves cardiovascular endurance, but also encourages teamwork, concentration and quick decisions, making athletes more complete,” says the expert.
Tennis
Originally from France, tennis is one of the most practiced sports in the world and one of the most popular in Brazil. “In addition to providing physical benefits such as strengthening muscles and improving coordination, tennis also develops mental strength, essential to overcome the ups and downs of a match,” concludes the expert.
