A beautiful afternoon from Ascot, where the rain has continued for the last 12 hours (hopefully) on Britain's most prestigious afternoon of racing – Qipco Champions Day, £4.1 million and four Group One races.
The track raised its expectations on Friday night to a crowd of 29,000, not far from the arrival to see Frankie Tettori bring the curtain down on his British career 12 months ago. The last thing anyone wanted was a wet start to the day, as walk-in ticket sales could take at least a slight hit. There are even patches of blue sky from time to time over the Berkshires.
Like last year, the action in the circuit's three rounds will take place on a narrow indoor layout due to running concerns.
