A high school senior and her older boyfriend, DJ, were found fatally shot while apparently going to homecoming dance.

Dashayla Ardoin, 17, of Mamou, Louisiana, was found dead along with her boyfriend, Glenkeithan Robertson, 21, of Opelousas, by Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office deputies around 7 p.m., Saturday.

They are believed to have gone to a homecoming ceremony at Mamou High School, where Ardoin was a student, when they were killed.

“Based on the investigation, it is believed to be a murder/suicide,” the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office announced on social media Monday.

Sheriff KP Gibson told People deputies believe Robertson was the shooter, but would not comment on any possible motive.

A witness to the shooting described how the pair drove up in a truck before hearing gunshots.

“A truck stopping across the street happens all the time, literally every day,” Austin Bellard told KLFY.

“It wasn't a truck I usually saw, but it didn't look out of place either.

“They stopped and I heard a few shots, I didn't really think about it,” Bellard recalled.

But he said he then ran to see what happened and told a local news station: “I don't want to tell you what I saw. It wasn't good.

“She was much loved and will be greatly missed.”

One person on Facebook also identified Ardoin as her cousin and wrote, “Man she doesn't deserve this, she hasn't even graduated college yet and hasn't enjoyed her life because of her selfish husband.”

“I never want to love someone where I want, me and your life.

“God, put your arms around my family because I can't even understand, she just beat cancer!” wrote cousin. “And having (your) life taken like this is not okay.”

Robertson's Facebook page shows he was a local DJ, and tributes have been pouring in for the emerging talent.

“I just prayed it wasn't true,” wrote Parker Reagan after hearing the news. I paced back and forth, trying to calm myself down because I had work to do.

“All the DJs, young and old, respected this guy because he did his thing every time!!!!” he wrote, describing Robertson as his “go-to guy for anything.”

“I don't believe so much because this kid was destined for greatness, you hear me?”

Brantasia Duffy, who identified Robertson as her cousin, also wrote that she couldn't sleep.

“I can't get over the fact that he's really gone,” she wrote on his profile.

“It (does) not sit well with me at all, but you have gained wings.

“I'm so sorry, I wish I could have saved you. I wish you would have called and talked to me,” Duffy said.

The aunt also wrote that “he is and was loved by everyone he came in contact with” and pleaded with the community not to judge her nephew.

About two months ago, he shared a photo of himself and Ardoin with the caption: “Me and you against the world.”
