Woman found dead cockroach in Shein delivery days after student found live scorpion in package from retailer

The woman was shocked to find a dead cockroach in her Shein package just a few days ago, just days after a student found a live scorpion in her package from the fast fashion brand.

Amy Jowett ordered a pair of joggers online, but when she opened the package, a dead insect fell out.

She first thought it was a “large moth” before quickly realizing it was a cockroach.

Mrs Jowett, from Langport, Somerset, said it was “disgusting” and terrible.

When opening other packages from Shein, she stated that she used “tweezers” and “shaked them well” because she was “paranoid” that there would be more insects inside.

She told the BBC she thought: “What's going on here, I didn't order any bedbugs.”

The Langport resident added: “It's ridiculous that they just found a scorpion and now this.”

Shein said she contacted Ms Jowett to resolve the issue. MailOnline has asked for more information.

Four days ago, 18-year-old Sofia Alonso-Mossinger was opening a package containing a pair of fast fashion shoes when she spotted a scorpion.

The University of Bristol student noticed it under her clothes and quickly called her roommates for help.

Roommate and zoology student Oliver James quickly grabbed the arachnid with kitchen tongs and placed it in a plastic box.

Unfortunately, when he called his professor for advice, even she didn't have a solution, so the group resorted to poking holes in the container so he could breathe.

Shocking footage shows the venomous creature running around a container with its claws and tail in an attempt to escape.

Recalling the moment, Alonso-Mossinger told the BBC: 'I thought I was dreaming.

“I feel like I don't mind spiders and stuff like that, but it was scary being in my room with a random scorpion.”

Oliver, who made the brave decision to relocate the scorpion, spoke of how “nervous” it was to deal with the pest, having no idea of its venom.

Phoebe Hunt – also 18 – ran to her housemates after hearing screams and finding a live scorpion rattling around the parcel.

Mrs Hunt admitted that she initially suggested killing the scorpion.

“Then everyone pointed out that it wasn't the most humane thing to do, so we scooped it up and put it in a Tupperware dish,” she added.

While planning what to do with the animal, university students fed the insects water using a kitchen paper towel.

The group initially called the RSPCA before realizing it was an issue better suited to the National Center for Reptile Care (NCRW).

NCRW's Chris Newman told the publication: “The scorpion is Olivierus martensii and it doesn't really have a common name other than the Chinese scorpion.”

He later explained that while the creature's sting could be “potentially life-threatening,” most adults would just have a very bad day.

“It is quite disturbing that this is the second such situation in less than a month,” he added.

It is understood that Shein is currently investigating the matter in several departments.

A spokesperson said: “SHEIN strives to provide our customers with high-quality products and services.

“We have a set of rigorous standards and procedures for product quality control. Our suppliers are required to comply with these standards, and SHEIN strives to ensure that our products and packaging meet high standards of cleanliness and sanitation.

“After receiving the feedback, we immediately conducted an internal investigation.

“Our on-site teams checked the shipment packaging process and inspected the goods in our warehouse and confirmed that all standard operating processes were followed.

“We are currently contacting the affected customer to resolve this issue.”
