Meal offerings are a hallmark of British lunch culture – and there are hundreds of possible combinations you can choose from in Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Waitrose supermarkets.
It could have been Shoes (esp NO supermarket) which pioneered the meal experience in the 1980s, forever changing the lunch breaks of countless Brits, but now Tesco has made a significant change to its meal experience by partnering with the popular restaurant chain.
Any guesses? It is an Asian-inspired branditsu, known for its sushi, noodle bowls, dumplings and other products available in 76 restaurants in England.
Here's what you need to know.
What is the change in the meal offer at Tesco?
From October 21, fanatics of meal offers will be able to choose Itsu's Dragon Roll sushi as part of Tesco's £5 meal deal – boujier upgrade on the £4 meal deal, which costs £3.60 for Clubcard holders.
Each sushi package will come with a sachet of mayonnaise, sweet soy sauce and a mini pot with crispy tempura pieces.
However, Tesco is not the first supermarket to partner with Itu, as Sainsbury's has long stocked a range of the company's products as part of its wider range, including chicken gyoza with spring onions, large chicken bao and chicken ramen.
Elsewhere, Itu has expanded its supermarket range with five new products, which are immediately available in Waitrose, Morrisons and Asda stores, and will be available in Tesco from November 4.
The new range includes two additional varieties of frozen dumplings – broth and steamed vegetables – which will cost £3 for six 28g pieces. They can be microwaved in the pack or steamed in a pan for extra softness.
Elsewhere, three vegetarian snacks have also debuted, including tempura vegetable fries, miso glazed aubergine and crispy pumpkin fritters, all priced at £3.25 each.
Meanwhile, McDonald's has launched a new £5 meal deal to add variety to its supermarket mix.
The offer, which launched last week, includes a choice of a Chicken Cheeseburger or Mayo, accompanied by medium fries, a medium soft drink and a serving of four Chicken McNuggets. How does this relate to value?
This deal saves almost £2.50 compared to the cost of purchasing each item individually, and customers can also purchase four nuggets that would not normally be available separately in this quantity.
However, if you want to pick up this absolute steal, you'll need to head into the store to pick it up as it's not available for delivery.
See you in Złote Łuki!
