Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) quotes coach Telê Santana to justify his offensive attitude against Ricardo Nunes (MDB) during the match first debate of the second round for the city of São Paulo, broadcast by Band on Monday evening, 14th. Additionally, he also said he viewed Nunes as a “scared mayor.”
The statements were released to the press after the debate was broadcast. When asked about his “attack stance” and whether it would be a strategy to also win over Pablo Marçal's (PRTB) voters, Boulos replied in football language:
“I always liked Tele Santana more than Parreira, you know? Playing backwards often is not my cup of tea. I think we need to tell people, especially in such a dramatic moment, what it really is. With respect to those who have suffered in recent days. I had to bring their outrage into this debate,” he said, referring to the power outage that has hit the capital of São Paulo since Friday the 11th.
Boulos also commented on the embrace between the candidates. In the context of the exchange of accusations in this debate, Boulos and Nunes adopted a comic tone. At one point, when Nunes was attacking Boulos, the psolist left the pulpit and approached the current mayor. After the glare, breaking the tense atmosphere, Nunes hugged him.
“Is everything okay?” – Nunes said after the unexpected arrival of his political opponent. “I'm fine, how about you? Is everything okay?” Boulos replied. Both of them had smiles on their faces and caused laughter from the audience. Still with a smile on her face, Nunes said, “You're not going to intimidate me, do you know why? I came from the outskirts of Parque Santo Antônio. I'm not afraid of anything. Only God.” Boulos said, “Never.”
Referring to the situation, Boulos said Nunes “tensed” over the situation and took advantage of the moment to attack his opponent again: “He's tense, he feels a little insecure.” The deputy said he wasn't concerned about the situation and laughed. “He's a scared mayor,” he concluded.
