MVA launches 'traitor' pamphlet against Shinde government: Here's what it says: Maharashtra Elections | Political news

As the Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has released a pamphlet accusing the state government of treason, corruption and failure to protect Maharashtra's interests by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The document, titled Gadaranch Panchanama, which translates as “proven record of traitors”, was released on Sunday.

Main parties and alliances in Maharashtra

The MVA is an alliance comprising the state's major parties, including the Congress, the Shiv Sena (the UBT party) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) (SP) led by Sharad Pawar. As an opposition coalition, the MVA has been vehemently critical of the Shinde-led government. Meanwhile, Shinde's Shiv Sena is part of the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Ajit Pawar's NCP. Elections to Maharashtra's 288-seat assembly are expected to be held in November.

MVA “Traitor” Booklet

In its “Traitor” pamphlet, the opposition claimed that under the current administration, Maharashtra has lost significant industrial projects to neighboring Gujarat. At a press conference, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray declared that Maharashtra had been “betrayed” by Mahayuti. Thackeray added that injustice was committed not only against him and political figures like Sharad Pawar, but also against the State.

The Gadarancha Panchanama lists several allegations against the Shinde government, including corruption in high-profile projects such as the Dharavi reconstruction and road concreting efforts in Mumbai. The opposition criticized the administration for its management of the Shivaji Maharaj statue project, a symbol of Maharashtra's pride, accusing it of corruption even in the construction of a monument dedicated to a revered historical figure.

Mahayuti expelled industries from Maharashtra: MVA

A key point of the booklet is that the Mahayuti government drove industries from Maharashtra to Gujarat. The MVA accused the administration of breaking its promise to create 50 million new jobs, saying it had failed to fill more than two lakh government vacancies.

Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole added that frequent paper leaks and temporary jobs have left Maharashtra's youth in trouble.

Patole also highlighted the growing economic and social problems under the current government. He pointed to the rising cost of essential goods and described what he considered to be widespread corruption in the government recruitment process. He stressed the importance of addressing the problem of rising crime rates, especially against women.

Baba Siddique Murder Abuse: MVA

MVA leaders used the pamphlet to highlight the government's alleged mismanagement of law and order, particularly the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. Both Uddhav Thackeray and Nana Patole raised concerns about the state's inability to ensure the safety of citizens, with Thackeray questioning the credibility of the government's response to such crimes.

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar echoed these sentiments, noting that the opposition pamphlet detailed the failures of the current government. The MVA also criticized Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin's project, describing it as poorly planned and poorly financed.

Maharashtra would have gone backwards under MVA: Shinde

Chief Minister Shinde on Saturday defended his administration, claiming that Maharashtra had fallen behind under the previous MVA government. He highlighted the stability of his government, noting that it has been in power for two years, despite initial predictions of collapse.

The next elections, scheduled for next month, will be a direct contest between MVA and Mahayuti. The Election Commission of India is yet to announce the official election calendar.
