ChelseaThe £35m signing of Benoit Badiashile is not good enough for the Premier League, claims former Blues defender William Gallus.
Badiashele joined Chelsea from Monaco in January 2023 but is still struggling to establish himself as a regular starter at Stamford Bridge.
The 23-year-old made over 100 appearances for Monaco and went on to represent the French national team, which is no small achievement considering the enormous talent he possesses, especially as a center back.
After arriving at Stamford Bridge midway through the 2022-23 season, Badiashile made 11 appearances for Chelsea over the rest of the season, before appearing in half of the club's Premier League matches last season.
However, the Frenchman has not appeared in the Premier League yet this season, and so far he has played four matches in the European Conference League and the Carabao Cup.
Gallas, however, was not surprised by Badiashile's lack of minutes and claims that after watching him in Ligue 1 he knew he was “not at Premier League level”.
“When I saw Benoit Badiashile in Monaco about two years ago, I knew he was not the type of player who would succeed in the Premier League,” Gallas said. The first casino.
– He has quality, but not at Premier League level. I was really surprised when Chelsea signed him and now he's suffering on the bench because he's not playing.
“He's not feeling well because he's not playing, but I don't think he's good enough to start. That's when you have to look at scouts and people who make transfers to Chelsea.
Badiashile signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea when he agreed to move from Monaco in early 2023.
But Enzo Maresca, who he became Chelsea manager in July and decided to cooperate with center backs Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana this season.
Chelsea's defense impressed, helping the Blues win four of their opening seven league games to finish fourth in the Premier League ahead of the resumption of domestic competition.
Mareska's website Drawing 1-1 at home to Nottingham Forest last weekend, Gallas believes the result showed why Chelsea will not finish in the top four this season.
“Chelsea has shown more positives than negatives this season, but they should beat teams like Nottingham Forest at home,” added the 47-year-old.
Chelsea have shown great improvement in recent games and fans could have dreamed of a comfortable top four finish, but I don't see it happening.
I think they will miss out on a top four finish because the most important thing is consistency, every match in the Premier League is difficult and I saw the players looking a bit tired.
Chelsea have shown they can be strong, but if they don't win home games like Nottingham Forest, they won't be able to finish in the top four.
While Gallas is somewhat pessimistic about Chelsea, Blues boss Maresca said he is “very pleased” with the team's progress since joining the Chelsea squad. took over from Mauricio Pochettino.
“When we started the season, to think that by the second international break you're fourth and the team is playing the way we play, learning to play different types of games, I'm certainly very happy about that,” said the Italian . .
“Seven games, 14 points, that's important. But what's also important to me is how we scored 14 points.
“It was different ways, different types of games; home, away, a team like (Forest) that sits at the back, a difficult team that tries to be aggressive. You're using a different weapon.
Chelsea will likely face their biggest test of the season so far on Sunday when they return to action and travel to Anfield to face Premier League leaders Liverpool.
