Kirk Herbstreit's Wild Ride It would be one of the craziest days of his career.
The lead color commentator for ABC's Eugene, Oregon college football programming began his day by co-hosting “College GameDay.”
The game crew, in the absence of 89-year-old Lee Corso for the second week in a row, was prepared for Saturday's game between the third-place Ducks and second-place Ohio State in Oregon.

However, there was a problem – the game, a Big Ten contest, was televised on NBC, and the main ABC game was the competition between No. 1 Texas Red River and No. 18 Oklahoma (aired on ABC).
Typically, Herbstreit broadcasts the game at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, but this assignment took place four hours earlier. Since play-by-play announcer Chris Fowler was already at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Herbstreit had to go there.
So for the first time, he left the “GameDay” set and actually appeared in the Oregon highway segment, supposedly on his way to the airport.

To make the day even longer, Herbstreit begins airing at 6:00 a.m. Oregon time and Texas-Oklahoma at 3:30 p.m. ET.
“Everything's all right. We're going pretty fast now,” Herbstreit said from the track.
“It was damn cold on that road. Who ordered the convertible?!?” Herbstreit posted on X while flying over Salt Lake City. “No matter what happens at the Red River Rivalry in Dallas, which starts at 3:30 p.m. ET. I left halfway through the show, hoping to get into the match, which was my first time.”
Herbstreit cut short and arrived in Dallas just 45 minutes before kickoff. At 3:25 p.m., five minutes before scheduled kick-off, he posted a video of himself being escorted by police outside the stadium.
The 55-year-old is no stranger to long days, travel and two tasks in one day. He even attended “GameDay” last week, set in Berkeley, Calif., and then called the Arkansas-Tennessee game in Fayetteville.

Herbstreit won't have anything to worry about next week, though – he'll be on call all day in Austin, Texas, for the highly anticipated Texas-Georgia matchup.
