In the final minute of the fourth quarter, with LSU trailing by seven yards, the Ole Miss 23-yard line found itself on fourth down. Then in overtime, Ole Miss managed just one field goal, but LSU answered and finished it off with a 25-yard pass to Kyren Lacy.
LSU took several timeouts in the game to maintain its chances.
Just before halftime, LSU recovered and stole a late field goal to cut the deficit to four. Ole Miss linebacker Henry Parrish turned the ball over while his team was trying to run down the clock.
However, LSU couldn't take advantage of a similar situation in the fourth quarter. After a foul by Ole Miss quarterback Jackson Dart, LSU kicker Damian Ramos missed 46 yards to the right.

Then, with Ole Miss trailing by just four, LSU forced a field goal from the Rebels to keep the game at one possession. LSU needed a touchdown to tie the game. LSU responded with a tie on the very next drive.
Nussheimer started the game with two interceptions and finished with three touchdown passes and 337 passing yards.

Rebels quarterback Jaxon Dart passed for 284 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and wide receivers Kayden Lee and Trey Harris led the way with over 100 yards each.
LSU came into the game with four straight wins, but two of them came against weak teams in UCLA and South Alabama.
LSU coach Brian Kelly and Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin are the only active coaches in the conference with 100 career FBS wins. Since arriving in Mississippi, Kiffin has scored 39 of those victories. If his team had won Saturday, Kiffin would have become the fastest 40-winner in Ole Miss program history.
But it wasn't meant to be.
