Oregon holds off Ohio State in a last-second comeback in an epic battle of the Big Ten's top three programs

Oregon Ducks welcome to the Big Ten.

The third-ranked Ducks pulled off a last-minute stoppage of No. 2 Ohio State and posted an impressive 32-31 victory Saturday night in Eugene.

This game was a movie from the beginning – only in the first half we saw a successful onside kick, a kickout and a blocked PAT that almost drove home. But somehow the ending was even better.

Early in the fourth quarter, Dillon Gabriel found the end zone from 27 yards from the ground, and the PAT put the Ducks up 29-28. However, the Buckeyes responded with a 40-yard field goal to take a two-play lead. However, Oregon got the ball back with six minutes left and marched down the field, and on the eleventh play of the game, they made a field goal and took a 32-31 lead with 1:47 left.

Will Howard was sacked for nine yards on the Buckeyes' first drive on the next drive, but he quickly completed passes of 13, 8, 9 and 26 yards to get within field goal range. However, offensive pass disruptions knocked them out of the situation. It also didn't seem like Ohio State knew the clock would run once the ball was placed after their penalty.

With six seconds left, Howard ran a few yards for his team's field goal, but he didn't make the tackle early enough to call a timeout, ending the game.

If Howard had knocked the ball out earlier (it didn't look like it was a planned run), there might have been enough time to call a timeout. Ducks fans stormed the field almost immediately, and it took a while for Gabriel and head coach Dan Lanning to leave the field.

The game went from start to finish with no one leading by more than one possession. Ohio State scored on the first drive, but Oregon later tied it – but that's where the PAT was blocked, keeping the Buckeyes ahead 7-6.

Oregon missed a field goal on its next drive, and the Buckeyes scored just four plays later and led by eight. Oregon scored on their next drive, but trailing by two points, they went for a two-point conversion. It didn't work out, but thanks to a penalty for a personal foul they started the game in midfield. So they decided to do a parachute kick and they succeeded. They took advantage of this by kicking a field goal, but after that they lost Traeshon Holden spat on an opponent and was checked out of the game. Both teams then scored another seven points before halftime, giving the Ducks a 22-21 lead in the locker room.

Oregon made its first drive of the second half, and the Buckeyes responded with a touchdown by rookie phenom Jeremiah Smith to go up six. The Ducks got to the five-yard line on their next drive, but failed to score, turning the ball over on downs. Fortunately for them, it didn't matter though, as they forced a punt early in the fourth quarter and got the ball back.

Gabriel finished with 341 passing yards, and Jordan James ran for 115 yards on 23 carries, one of which was a touchdown. Evan Stewart led all receivers with 149 yards on seven catches – he and Tez Johnson scored on Oregon's touchdowns.

Howard's 326 yards through the air weren't enough – Smith and Emeka Eggbuka combined for 19 receptions, 193 yards and two touchdowns.
