Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, called Vice President Kamala Harris Friday after the Democratic presidential nominee shared an anecdote about her alleged interactions with the six-term senator.

Harris was perplexed at a Republican event for Harris in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Friday afternoon when she claimed that John McCain, who represented the Grand Canyon state in the U.S. Senate until his death in 2018, once praised her.

Harris said the exchange occurred after he and McCain “faced off” at a committee hearing. The Republican contacted him later that day, he said.

“Later that day, I stepped onto the Senate floor — we had a vote — and I walked past John McCain, and he looked at me and said, 'Come here, kid. senator,'” Harris recalled. “True story. True story.”

“Now, I know Democrats want to reinvent history and turn my father into whatever distraction his friends need him to be, depending on what political moment you want to denigrate his memory… but please share with me why I really don't I remember him. start talking about Kamala Harris,” McCain wrote.

“And consider this my final warning, I’m going to start spilling the tea.”

On Saturday, McCain called his critics “crazy” in response to the backlash.

“My timeline has actually triggered many Democrats who claim to know more about my father…than his daughter,” he wrote. “Control reality, freak.”

Walz toasted the rally after declaring, “We can't go another four years like this.”
