Superhero satire “The Boys” shares a creator with “Supernatural” (Eric Kripke), and its first series reused several actors. So far, Season 3 of “The Boys” has featured a parody of Captain America, Soldier Boy played by former Dean Winchester actor Jensen Ackles, and Season 4 has hired Jeffrey Dean Morgan (monster hunter patriarch John Winchester on “Supernatural”) as Old Buddy Billy' Butcher's (Karl Urban) CIA ego, Joe Kessler.
The upcoming fifth season of “The Boys” will finally bring Other “Supernatural” star Jared Padalecki (who played Sam Winchester). We don't know who he's playing with yet, and neither does the July Varietyon interview, because the season hasn't been written yet. However, since “The Boys” ends in its fifth season, this is Kripke's last chance to have Padalecki appear on the seriesso he will find it Some a role to play.
“The Boys” is not strictly an adaptation of the original comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Example: “Ackles” the Soldier and Morgan's “Kessler” look nothing like the comic book versions of these characters. This makes it even more difficult to guess who Padalecki will play, but we will do our best.
Mr. Marathon
One of Padalecki's most popular fancasts is the original speedster Seven, Supe, Mister Marathon.
If The Seven is a riff on Justice League, then the mile-a-minute runner A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) is the obvious stand-in for The Flash. But a detail you may or may not remember is that A-Train is not a founding member. Team First the speedster received the title of Mister Marathon; he can be seen on the poster of the universe movie “Dawn of the Seven” in a red suit resembling The Flash.
Like most details of “The Boys”, it is a parody of a real superhero story, in particular the sequel Flashes: Mister Marathon is a counterpart to Barry Allen, who (at the time of publication of “The Boys”) had been dead for 20 years since ” Crisis on Infinite Earths.” A-Train is Wally West, the former Kid Flash who took Barry's place as the Flash and in the Justice League.
In the comics, Mister Marathon died when the Seven tried to be like that true superheroes and stop the plane hijacking. In the series, it is implied that he has simply retired, but has not yet appeared on screen. If the show wants to showcase him before the end, Season 5 is its last chance, and Paladecki is a big enough face that his debut could make an impact.
In the fourth season of “The Boys,” A-Train pursued an unlikely redemption that culminated in him leaving the Seven and going into hiding. If the Seven need a replacement speedster, perhaps Homelander will break the OG.
Original character
Part of how “The Boys” moves where the source material is pushed is that it often creates original characters or distorts comic book characters so wildly that they are virtually unrecognizable. One example is Homelander's Son Ryan (Cameron Crovetti, originally Parker Corno), who adds a whole separate layer to the Butcher/Homelander hostility and Homelander's own development, being a character created for the show.
The entire young Supe cast from “Gen V” is also an invention of this spin-off series. In the TV show “The Boys,” Vice President Victor “Vic the Veep” Neuman, former CEO of Vought and the company's White House puppet, is turned into Victoria Neumana (Claudia Doumit), who is a Supe herself and much more cunning than the comical Vic.
So perhaps Paladecki will play a character who will not be based on anyone from the comics. There are dozens of Supes in The Boys, pumped up with cheesy costumes and names that resemble the bad products they are. I'm sure the writers' room could easily come up with a Supe character to go along with Paladecki if they didn't like any of Ennis and Robertson's existing characters.
Someone a Soldier kills
This scene is less specific and more of a twisted comedy beat for “Supernatural” fans.
Soldier Boy will return in Season 5 of 'The Boys'; the Season 4 sting showed Homelander finding him preserved on ice and Ackles being moved to a series regular. Nobody knows quite what role Soldier Boy will play at the end of the series, but considering his popularity (enough for a Vought Rising spin-off) and Ackles' friendship with Kripke, it will probably be a big one.
On Supernatural, Ackles and Paladecki co-hosted as the Winchester brothers, who literally went through hell with and for each other. The two actors worked together for 15 seasons, so it would be remiss not to put them on screen together again. However, this does not mean that their characters have to be friends again.
I see it now: Soldier Boy charges his radioactive beam, only to miss his intended target and reduce Paladecki's form to blood and gore. If that sounds too cute, remember that “The Boys” is never subtle. The show does not blink at the audience, it waves a neon sign in front of them.
Besides, it's the last season, so episode may be the best way to match Paladeckirather than introducing a new key character that will eat up screen time.
SwingWing
In the fourth season finale of “The Boys”, a previously unseen Supe named SwingWing was mentionedpotentially setting him up for a role in Season 5. In “The Boys” comics, SwingWing is a parody of Nightwing/Dick Grayson from DC's original Robin, who separated himself from Batman and took on a new name to reflect his journey.
Like Dick, SwingWing was Tek Knight's original sidekick (“Laddio”), then he went solo and Tek Knight took on a new sidekick to replace him. SwingWing pretends to be gay in front of good press, but in reality he's quite a homophobe. If The Boys didn't have to settle for eight seasons of episodes, a standalone episode about how they defeated SwingWing like they did in the comics would make a ton of sense, but I digress.
Nightwing is a famous pretty boy and of course SwingWing is too. Paladecki certainly doesn't care. The only potential problem is that he's the same age as Derek Wilson, who played Tek Knight on “The Boys.” Logically, the midfielder should be younger than his mentor.
They won't be sharing screen time though (RIP Tek Knight), so that won't happen This obvious. Plus, Season 4 suggested that Tek Knight goes through sidekicks just as quickly as the Dark Knight makes his own Robins.
Hawk
Each of the big Supe teams in “The Boys” corresponds to the real ones from Marvel or DC. Founded in the comics by John Godolkin, the G-Men are Vought's version of Marvel's X-Men. “Generation V” elevated Godolkin (renamed Thomas), turning him into the long-dead founder of Supe College, where the series is set. The G-Men, while invisible, are said to still exist in the show's universe, and considering Season 5 will be a full-on Supe apocalypse, I wouldn't be surprised if they showed up.
Naturally, one of the main members of the G-Men, if a parody of Wolverine: Groundhawk. He has a costume and mask similar to Wolverine's, but green instead of yellow and blue. He also has hammers instead of knives and cannot retract them like Wolverine can with his claws. Garth Ennis doesn't like any superheroes except Superman, but he Really hates Wolverine. Therefore, Groundhawk is written as particularly undignified, from his almost useless hammer hands to his inability to utter any words beyond growling, “It will!”
Groundhawk appeared in “Nubian vs Nubian”, an episode of the animated anthology series “The Boys Presents: Diabolical”, but did not appear in the main series. With “Deadpool and Wolverine” hitting the box office in summer 2024, “The Boys” may want to reimagine Logan, and Padalecki could be the actor to pull it off.
“The Boys” is available to watch on Prime Video.
