A Pearl Jam star is apologizing to Aussie fans for letting the country down for a decade as the long-awaited band finally returns

Eddie Vedder has apologized to Pearl Jam's Australian fans for insulting the country for a decade.

The 59-year-old American singer and guitarist has opened up about his band's long absence from Australia as they prepare to make their first comeback in decades next month.

Pearl Jam – consisting of Eddie, Jeff Ament, Stone Cozart, Mike McCready and Matt Cameron – last performed Down Under at the Big Day Out Festival in 2014.

The 90s grunge legends' last gig in Australia marked the final year of the Big Day Out festival, which was canceled the following year.

Speaking ahead of their long-awaited return, Eddy revealed the cancellation of their gig and Pearl Jam's lengthy Aussie tour. He cited comedy theories as an apology for the hiatus.

'I don't know what killed the big day out! I hope we don't do that,” he joked to the Courier Mail.

'But my apologies to Australia; We should have come back, I don't want to ignore you.'

Eddie revealed the reason why Pearl Jam haven't performed in Australia for a decade, describing their touring schedule as 'occasional'.

'We're casual and different about how we tour. “We'll go to Europe, then we'll go to Canada and (the U.S.) and now Australia. There's a method to the madness, and sometimes the method takes longer than we all want,” he said.

He explained that he and his bandmates all had to take time off from each other before reuniting to make their music and performances feel 'refreshed'.

Pearl Jam sent their Aussie fans wild when they confirmed three stadium shows Down Under as part of their Dark Matter world tour.

They are confirmed to play at Heritage Bank Stadium on the Gold Coast on November 13, Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on November 16 and Giants Stadium in Sydney on November 21.

There was speculation that the rock group would play the Adelaide 500 Supercars show in November, but the tour announcement did not mention that event.

As an added treat for 90s alternative rock lovers, indie rock legends The Pixies will be supporting the band.

The tour coincides with the release of their 12th studio album, Dark Matter, which was released on April 19 – the same day Taylor Swift released The Tortured Poets Department.

Pearl Jam formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990 and released their debut album Ten in 1991, featuring classic hard rock hits such as Alive and Even Flow.

Although their debut album was not an immediate hit, sales exploded as they rose to fame as part of the globally influential grunge music scene that emerged from the region in 1992.

Other standout bands include Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains, all of whom joined Pearl Jam as they saw massive success in the 1990s.
