Flav has long been a trailblazer, and in his post, he urged fans to make mental health a priority, offering them free access to a therapy platform of the day.

'I always like to be the first to do something revolutionary. This is a specialty that can help many people. Help me help you.'

In January 2023, Flavor Flav opened up about his intense battle with addiction in a candid conversation on DJ Academics' Off the Record Spotify podcast.

At the height of his addiction, the star revealed he was spending $2,600 a day on drugs, which amounted to nearly $1 million a year over a six-year period.

'I took good care of myself that time, do you feel me? I hid it,' said the 64-year-old, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr.

Despite his heavy drug use, he admitted to covering up the extent of his addiction.

'There was a time when I spent $2,400–$2,600 a day for six years. You do the math. I spent that much on drugs.'

Flav also revealed that while he made money selling drugs, he was his 'best customer'.

“I had a lot of money, but I was doing it wrong,” he reflected.

He also touched on how drug culture was glorified in the music of his era. 'We talked about drug dealing during the drug registration period. It's about who can make the most money and who's balling out of the hustle. It was a match for all hustlers.'

Now recovered, Flav reflects on his journey with purpose. 'God willed that I should live, for he knew that I was the mouthpiece of the world. I can teach people about my mistakes.'

Flavor has a turbulent history with drug abuse.

In 2015, he was arrested on a Las Vegas highway for driving under the influence of cocaine, and Clark County prosecutors also charged him with speeding and an open container of alcohol.

His struggles with addiction span decades.

In 1993, Flav faced charges of domestic violence and possession of cocaine and marijuana, which led to him being treated at the Betty Ford Center for crack cocaine addiction.

He then went back to rehab at the Long Island Center for Recovery in 1997.

Despite his troubled past, Flavor Flav made a major comeback in the public eye in 2004 when he joined the cast of VH1's The Surreal Life.

His romance with co-star Brigitte Nielsen became a pop culture phenomenon, and led to reality TV opportunities.

These included Strange Love and Flavor of Love, which further cemented her reality TV fame.

Now, as he approaches his four-year sobriety milestone, Flavor Flav is using his platform to speak candidly about the battles he's won.
