The Twins announced plans to consider selling the team after 40 years under the Pohlad family

The statement shows that the team was owned by the Pohlad family after 40 seasons. Social media On Thursday, they will consider the possibility of selling the franchise.

“For the past 40 seasons, the Minnesota Twins have been part of the heart and soul of our family,” Twins executive chairman Joe Pohlad, a third-generation owner, said in a statement.

“This team is woven into the fabric of our lives, and the Twins community has become an extension of our family. The staff, the players and, most importantly, you, the fans – who make up this incredible organization – are all a part of We do not take lightly the privilege of being stewards of this franchise,” the statement read.

Under the Pohlad family, the Twins won two World Series in 1987 and 1991. The Twins won nine American Central Division titles and earned a wild card spot during their tenure.

“After months of careful consideration, our family has decided to sell the twins this summer. “The time is right to make this decision public as we enter the next phase of the process,” the statement continued.

The Twins are coming into the season where they finished 82-80, but went 9-18 in September and missed the playoffs.

Rocco Baldelli will remain manager next season. He managed the team for six seasons, leading the Twins to three AL Central titles.

Baldelli also led the Twins to a playoff series win in 2023, their first playoff series win since 2002.

Despite the success in 2023, Pohlad ordered spending cuts that amounted to nearly $30 million in salary cuts as the team suffered a loss of local television revenue due to the bankruptcy of the Bally Sports cable network.

Pohlad said he recognizes the importance of the team to the area and that will be considered in the process.

“After forty years of commitment, passion and countless memories, we look to the future with care and intention — for our family, the Twins organization and the community we love so much,” the statement read.

The twins have lived in Minnesota since 1961, when the Washington senators moved to the Minneapolis area.

“We truly respect and value what the Twins mean to Minneapolis, St. Paul, the great state of Minnesota and the entire region. Our goal is to keep the band, staff and you, the fans, informed as much as possible. You deserve it, because in many ways this band doesn't belong to any one family – it's all of you.”
