Lionel Richie plans to publish a memoir that will tell of his illustrious nearly six-decade career.

The as-yet-untitled book, according to its publisher HarborOne, will be an 'intimate, deeply honest memoir'.

Richie, 75, is an Academy Award, Grammy and Golden Globe-winning singer-songwriter and a judge on American Idol.

Richie explained to People that he considers himself the 'reluctant hero of my own story.'

The memoir begins when Ritchie was a college student at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama at the height of the civil rights movement, then explores his time as a member of The Commodores before seeing the superstardom that came as a solo artist. In the 1980s.
