Florence Pugh reveals she played her Midsomer character for Halloween 'after abusing herself'

Florence Buck dressed up as Danny in last year's horror film Midsomer Halloween despite previously revealing she 'abused herself' to get into character for the role.

Speaking at Vanity Fair with her co-star Andrew Garfield, 41, for their new film We Live in Time, the 28-year-old actress asked him one question: 'Which of my characters did I dress up as for Halloween?'

Andrew said: 'Are you looking forward to dressing up as your own character for Halloween?'

Florence said: 'Well, because it's cold. This is Danny from Midsomer. I had the original top and I went out and it worked.'

In the 2019 horror film, Florence starred opposite Jack Reiner as an American couple drawn to a violent cult in the countryside. Sweden.

During an interview on the Off Menu podcast in March 2023, Florence stated that she 'definitely' abused herself to play the character.

'When I did that, I was so wrapped up in her that I've never had before with any of my characters,' Florence told podcast hosts James Acaster and Ed Gamble.

'I've never played someone in so much pain before, and I'd put myself in bad situations that other actors wouldn't have to do, but I'd be imagining bad things.

'Every day the content is very different and difficult. I put bad and dark things in my head.

'In the end, I think I definitely abused myself to get that performance.'

After Midsommar closed, Florence immediately moved to the Boston set of Greta Gerwig's Little Women.

At the time, the film was considered controversial with references to rape, graphic full-frontal nudity and subverting Swedish traditions.

The Oscar nominee got emotional while switching between movies.

'I remember seeing it [out the plane] Huge guilt because I felt left out [Dani] In that field in that field [emotional] State,' she said.

'It's very strange. I've never been before… Obviously, it's probably a psychological thing, where I felt so guilty about what I did, but I let her abuse me in that department, and I definitely felt almost like myself. d made this person and then I left her there and went to do another film.

Florence is currently on tour with Andrew promoting their new film We Live in Time.
