Hurricane Milton's Most Heartbreaking Image: Cruel Florida Landlords Abandon Dog Chained to Fence as Floodwaters Rise

A Florida trooper rescued a small dog that was tied to a pole on a major highway in a flood pool. Hurricane Milton is beginning to overwhelm the state.

An unidentified Florida Highway Patrol officer was seen walking through a grassy area on the shoulder of I-75 near Bruce B Downs Boulevard near Tampa to rescue a small white puppy.

“It's OK, buddy, it's OK,” the officer could be heard saying as the dog tried to back away. “Okay, okay!”

When the officer approached the dog and realized it was stuck, it began growling as the small animal stood chest-deep in water.

Despite repeated attempts to comfort the dog, it only growled and whined.

“I don't blame you,” the officer said. – Everything's fine, buddy, everything's fine.

“They left him to drown OMFG! Please find who did this! one User X wrote.

This is ridiculous. The owner must face legal consequences,” another wrote.

'Wow. People can be so heartless. Thank you for saving him,” a third wrote.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has even shown support for the highway patrol, writing on X: “Thank you @FHPTampa. It is cruel to leave a dog tied to a pole in the middle of an approaching storm. “Florida will hold accountable anyone who mistreats animals.”

Tampa is expected to face the worst of the Category 4 hurricane Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon, with rainfall estimates ranging from 10 to 55 inches, according to CNN.

Flood-prone areas may experience storm surges of 8 to 3 meters above ground level, peaking around 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Hurricane Milton has begun making landfall in Florida, bringing terrifying tornadoes to the southern state as the historic storm doubles before making landfall in Tampa Bay this evening.

Milton was a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 160 miles per hour, according to a 5 a.m. update from the National Hurricane Center.

Winds blowing at 250 km/h become wider and wider from the center, increasing its ability to cause widespread destruction.

On Monday, winds in Milton reached around 80 miles, increasing to just over 100 miles on Wednesday morning.

The storm was tracked about 500 miles off the coast of Tampa on Wednesday morning and was moving toward the city at about 14 miles per hour on Wednesday.

Forecasters expect Milton to make landfall as a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 120 mph.

The greatest danger comes from a wall of water, called a storm surge, that Milton will stir up. This could cause up to 5 meters of water to flood Tampa Bay. Residents were warned to evacuate due to the closure of the city's airport yesterday.
