Top Heroes guide – 7 tips to get started

1

Tip #1 – Explore EVERYTHING

Early on and even later on in the game, one of the most important things you can do is explore. You want to explore every nook and cranny of each map, because you can find hidden villagers, soldiers, and even heroes – not to mention you can also get free Diamonds.

This is the foundation of the game, and I recommend you explore as many maps as you can at first while following the questline until you cannot defeat the enemies any longer. When you reach a point where you’re too weak to win, you can take a breath and start working on the upgrades.

It’s crucial you get as many recruit tickets as you can for free, and exploration is the best way to get them (for free).

Note: I personally like to explore as much as I can until I reach a new Portal, and then go back to base, do some upgrades, and head back out. That way I can delay that point where I am too weak to defeat the bosses, and can progress at a steady rate.

Tip #2 – Upgrade all your heroes

There aren’t a lot of heroes in Top Heroes, and upgrading the ones you have will ensure things go smoothly until you get some Legendary ones (which is most likely not going to happen until later on), and also because once you reach level 50 with them, you will unlock their skills.

You could keep the heroes you don’t use at level 50, but even the starter ones (Warrior or Archer) could be decent until you get some better ones. So, I recommend you upgrade them to max level 50, and then go further with the Epic or Legendaries.

If you don’t upgrade them at all hoping you’ll get a miraculous rare hero, you’ll just end up getting stuck, unable to progress past a certain point, and that’s when the game stops being fun.

Star up heroes

Whenever you obtain shards or heroes from the Tavern, you can use their duplicates to star them up. This grants them more skills and increases stats, so if you want to have decent heroes (even the lower-rarity ones), you should star them up as soon as you get their dupes.

Gear them up

As you keep grinding, you will get equipment that you can give to your heroes. Since not all equipment can be good (and you won’t be getting the super duper equipment as soon as you start playing), you should stick to whatever gear you have and give it to your best hero.

If you have multiple pieces, then give it to your two best heroes, and so on. Basically, don’t leave them without any equipment because every stat counts.

Tip #3 – Upgrade your buildings

If you want to get more power quickly, the best thing you can do is start upgrading your buildings. The most important one is the Castle, which you should rush to upgrade to level 12 (and then higher). The maximum level is 40, but you want the additional stats and bonuses because it will let you upgrade all the rest of your buildings to higher levels afterwards.

When you go for an upgrade, I recommend you do the first few ones with Diamonds (since they cost 0 Diamonds) and the subsequent upgrades normally. Just don’t spend your Diamonds on upgrades because it is not worth it AT ALL.

You should also avoid using speedups, because at higher levels you will need lots of them, and by the time you reach level 35+ Castle, you should have a lot of speedups saved up to help give you that little speed boost.

The reason you don’t want to spend your resources (be it speedups or Diamonds) on the early upgrades is because, despite them not costing a lot, you need the Diamonds for events later on, and the time it takes to upgrade your buildings (Castle included) is at most a few hours.

Just spend your time farming new areas while you have an upgrade underway, or idle!

Tip #4 – Farming is the way to go

farming enemies in top heroes

In the early stages of the game, the only thing you should be focusing on (aside from what I already mentioned – exploring and upgrading your heroes and your buildings) is farming. You want to farm wood, stone, food, and overall leave your heroes grinding away in happiness at the highest spot on the map you cleared.

Ideally, you can farm at a spot where there is a boss because that’s a sure way to get some additional drops. You could also use the quick farming there. Try to farm the highest bosses you can until your main characters are geared up.

We have an article where we feature some of the best teams in Top Heroes, so if you are ever in need of a team to help you farm easier, make sure you give it a read.

Tip #5 – Save your Diamonds

resources claimed after being idle

Diamonds are the premium currency in the game, and if you are a F2P player, you will probably need a lot of them in the late game. You should never spend your Diamonds on upgrades, even if the upgrades cost like 3-15 Diamonds. I already said this before, but it’s important you don’t get baited by the low amount.

You should save the Diamonds for the events, because that’s where you can get some exclusive items. You shouldn’t spend the Diamonds on the summons either, since you will get plenty of epic heroes just by playing.

If you need additional Diamonds, try looking at the achievements and completing as many as you can. The same goes for the quests, and finding all the little chests in the maps. You never know what could be hidden inside!

Tip #6 – Go farm bosses and keep track of their timers

If you ever just want to farm – be it for some specific gear or because you want to have fun killing bosses – you should try farming the highest one you can. I always prefer to farm the highest boss I can beat, and track its respawn time.

I usually farm the same boss a few times to make sure I get as many drops as possible, and once I am stronger, I move on to the next. In the time the boss takes to respawn, I like to go farm resources (or mobs, depending on what I need).

You should also do the guild bosses since you will get a lot of drops from them.

I read before about a way to cheese some bosses, which works when you are at higher levels. To do this, you just kill all the mobs around them, start attacking the boss, and then teleport back to base (before the boss is dead) to heal. Then, you go back to the boss and continue where you left off.

This is a fairly simple mechanic, and all you gotta do is rinse and repeat – this way you can easily farm the tougher bosses in adventure mode.

Tip #7 – Other Top Heroes tips

Here are a few more tips and tricks to help you get a strong start:

  • Don’t use all the resources you have stored in your bag if you plan on going AFK. These resources are safe from other players raiding you, so they won’t get stolen. If you are in need of resources to upgrade something, by all means, use them – otherwise, don’t.
  • In the early game, don’t attack other players. If you do, then your immunity shield will wear off and you risk getting attacked by literally everyone. It’s best you stay away from PvP until you’re strong enough to hold your own.
  • Join a guild as soon as you can. Once joining a guild, you will be able to help your guildmates (and they can help you) speed up the building process. This also helps you with additional content, such as the guild bosses that you should take part in. Ah, and when in need, you can always trade resources at the guild shop!
  • The guild feature is also great for keeping your base safe because you can position your base next to your guildmates. People will be deterred from attacking it, knowing there could be revenge coming for them.
  • Don’t forget to claim the Top Heroes codes! You can get a lot of Diamonds, speedups and resources, and sometimes even exclusive items. Usually around the holidays, there are more codes, so keep an eye on that page.
