Disney’s D23: Here Are All the Trailers, First Looks and Announcements

Whether you’re a fan of Star Wars, Toy Story, Inside Out or Marvel, you can start marking your entertainment calendar for the shows and movies to come. Disney’s biennial fan event, D23, held in Anaheim, California, on Aug. 9-11, unveiled a number of trailers, teasers and first looks at upcoming shows and films. Here’s a look at what’s coming.

Avatar 3 title released

The title of the third Avatar film was announced at D23. It’s called Avatar: Fire and Ash, and is scheduled to come out Dec. 19, 2025. It’ll be the latest sequel to filmmaker’s James Cameron’s 3D blockbuster, Avatar, which came out in 2009. The second Avatar movie came out in 2022 and was called Avatar: The Way of Water. (CNET critic Richard Trenholm called it “a decent sci-fi blockbuster.”)

We don’t know a lot about the plot of Avatar: Fire and Ash, but back in 2022, young actor Jack Champion told The Hollywood Reporter that the third film “shocked” him and that it “takes a hard left turn.”

Frozen 3 and Frozen: The Musical news

Frozen fans just can’t let it gooooooo, and neither can Disney. While we don’t know a lot about Frozen 3, the third film in the series, Disney Animation Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Lee said it’s scheduled for November 2027 and that another film in the series will come after that. Concept art was revealed, showing royal sisters Elsa and Anna riding horses.

The musical version of Frozen premiered on Broadway back in 2018. But Frozen fans who can’t see it live on stage will be able to watch it on the Disney Plus streaming service in 2025. Just like Hamilton before it, a live version of Frozen, featuring Samantha Barks as Elsa, was filmed onstage for the service.

Moana 2

In 2016, Moana introduced viewers to Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho), the brave daughter of an island chief, who saves her people with some help from legendary demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson). In the sequel, Moana 2, coming to theaters Nov. 27, she must once again head out into dangerous waters for an oceanic adventure. Disney released the first trailer for Moana 2 during D23.

In addition to Moana 2, a live-action version of the first film is slated for release in 2026. The film was originally set to be a TV series on Disney Plus but was reworked into a theatrical sequel. It’ll be interesting to see if that original episodic style shows up in the film, or if we can even tell.

Inside Out spin-off show

Inside Out came out in 2015, introducing viewers to the lively emotions, including Joy (voice of Amy Poehler) and Sadness (voice of Phyllis Smith), that live inside young Riley’s brain. New emotions, including that teen trauma-giver Anxiety (voice of Maya Hawke), showed up in the 2024 sequel.

Now, the movie series is spinning off a TV series called Dream Productions that will be based in the universe of Riley’s mind. It’ll come to Disney Plus in 2025. We’re guessing the big-salaried movie stars who voice the characters in the films won’t show up for the show, but the cast has yet to be announced. The show takes place between the two movies when Riley’s about 12 and already living in San Francisco but not yet in high school.

Zootopia 2

The original Zootopia came out in 2016 and immersed viewers in an animated animal land where bunny and rookie cop Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) meets a con-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman). Zootopia 2 hits theaters Nov. 26, 2025.

The clip shown reunites Judy and Nick as they attempt to solve another case set among Zootopia’s sea creatures in an area called Marsh Market.

Incredibles 3

Fans of the animated superhero family introduced in 2004’s The Incredibles and again in 2018’s Incredibles 2, get ready. A third installment in the franchise, Incredibles 3, is coming. D23 didn’t reveal any plot or release date info, but Brad Bird, who directed the first two, will be back directing the third.

The Mandalorian & Grogu

Who doesn’t love Baby Yoda (real name: Grogu) and father figure The Mandalorian (played by Pedro Pascal)? If you love them on The Mandalorian show on Disney Plus, perhaps you’ll (eventually) snatch up tickets to their upcoming feature film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, which has a May 22, 2026, release date.

Pascal is back as The Mandalorian/Din Djarin, and Baby Yoda/Grogu is back as the world’s cutest space puppet. Gizmodo reports that the D23 footage including voiceover footage where Djarin calls Grogu his “new apprentice” and features plenty of action, plus the return of the Razor Crest ship and an appearance by Zeb Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels.

Daredevil: Born Again series trailer

Disney shared the trailer for Daredevil: Born Again, which isn’t on YouTube and other services yet, so we can’t link to it. Daredevil, of course, is the alter ego of Marvel Comics hero Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer, and Daredevil: Born Again is the upcoming Disney Plus TV series based on his adventures, following the series simply called Daredevil, that aired on Netflix from 2015-2018. Charlie Cox is back from the Netflix show starring as Daredevil in this series.

Ironheart series trailer

Dominique Thorne, who played Riri Williams/superhero Ironheart in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is getting her own Disney Plus show, and exclusive footage was shown at D23.

Williams herself showed up and said she can’t wait for fans to see the show, which is expected to premiere in 2025 with six episodes on Disney Plus. Anthony Ramos plays Parker Robbins/The Hood, and the clip shows him seeming to be on Ironheart’s side, but then … maybe not?

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2

Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Disney Plus TV show based on Rick Riordan’s insanely popular book series about a teen demigod, is getting a second season. The show stars Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood.

A preview was shown as D23, and the second season will be streaming in 2025. The new season is based on Riordan’s 2006 book The Sea of Monsters, the second book in the series.

Elio movie

Ready for a Disney movie that’s not a sequel? D23 announced a new film from Pixar called Elio, which follows 11-year-old Elio Solis (voice of Yonas Kibreab). He accidentally becomes the intergalactic Ambassador of planet Earth when aliens beam him up to their world. Zoe Saldaña voices Elio’s aunt.

Win or Lose TV show

Pixar’s first-ever original animated series, called Win or Lose, is coming to Disney Plus on Dec. 6.

It’s about a co-ed middle school softball team, The Pickles, as they prepare for their big game. Each episode shows the perspective of each member about the same events, shown in a variety of visual styles.

Hoppers

We’re getting another upcoming Pixar original film, Hoppers, coming in spring 2026. It’s about a young girl, Mabel (voice of Piper Curda) who swaps brains with a robot beaver and goes undercover in the animal kingdom to unite the other animals to fight off a real-estate development plan. Jon Hamm plays the villain, Mayor Jerry.

Toy Story 5

More stories from the world of Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear? I mean, awhile back, I thought the series was stopping at a trilogy, but then Toy Story 4 came out in 2019 and was still pretty good, so sure, why not?

D23 revealed that the plot will involve the toys fighting technology, including an army of 50 Buzz Lightyears controlled by computers. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2026.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Star Wars fans have mixed feelings about the sheer number of Star Wars series, spin-offs and films that keep getting cranked out, but here’s another one. A new Disney Plus series, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, focuses on four kids who stumble upon what they think is a lost Jedi temple, mistakenly get launched into space, and find themselves surrounded by all the creatures and dangers of the Star Wars universe.

Jude Law plays a Force-user named Jod Na Nawood, who apparently helps the kids. The first two episodes come to Disney Plus on Dec. 3.

Andor season 2

The acclaimed Star Wars: Andor series, which airs on DisneyPlus, is getting a second season in 2025, and D23 showed clips from the making of the new season. Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor, the show’s namesake, and Ben Mendelsohn will be joining the cast as Rogue One villain Orson Krennic. The Andor series begins five years before 2016’s Rogue One and the iconic 1977 original Star Wars: A New Hope film. Twelve new episodes are coming.

Monster Jam movie with The Rock

Monster Jam is the name of the traveling motorsport tour featuring those enormous, big-wheeled trucks that perform in stadium shows, where they enact stunts and roll over junked cars. Now, the Monster Jam parent company has teamed up with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Walt Disney Studios for a live-action movie.

There’s no release date or other details yet, but let’s all imagine a Fast & Furious movie where The Rock is doing his same famed car stunts, only with monster trucks.
