Max Payne Remakes Power Ahead as Remedy Reports Increased Revenue

Max Payne and Control developer Remedy Entertainment has released its financial report for the first half of the 2025 fiscal year, and it contains some encouraging news about Control 2 and the forthcoming Max Payne remakes.

Per Remedy’s report, the Max Payne remakes, which still don’t have a release window, have now entered “the full production stage”, having entered the “production readiness stage” back in October last year. This suggests development on the remakes is progressing pretty smoothly.

The report also offers an update on Control 2, which was first announced in November 2022. The upcoming sequel has entered the aforementioned “production readiness stage”, according to Remedy, which means we can likely expect full production to ramp up a few months from now.

Control 2 is apparently ready to enter production.

Additionally, if you’re looking for an update on Remedy’s Control spinoff Codename Condor, which may or may not end up being called FBC: Firebreak, that’s also in full production, according to Remedy.

All of this info comes from a financial report that also sees Remedy’s revenue increasing by 33.7% year-over-year, although profits are down by around 10%, so it’s not an entirely rosy picture for the Finnish studio.

Unfortunately, it looks like things still aren’t looking up for horror sequel Alan Wake 2, either, as the game has yet to turn a profit ten months after its release. Despite that, Remedy CEO Tero Virtala says the game has “recouped most of its development and marketing expenses” at the time of the report’s publication.

Virtala also says that the cancellation of Tencent collab Codename Kestrel back in May has given the studio “increased focus and better development synergies”, as well as allowing it to “move experienced developers into other game projects”.

Alan Wake 2 still hasn’t made Remedy any money, it seems.

So, what’s next for Remedy? Right now, the studio has “two games in full production” (that’s the Max Payne remakes and Condor, so it looks like Remedy is counting those remakes as one project) and one “in the production readiness stage” (i.e. Control 2).

The studio also says that since it acquired the rights to the Control franchise from 505 Games, it’s able to “choose how to bring [its] future games to the market”, which involves “weighing self-publishing” and “different partner publishing opportunities”.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens next, but we’ll likely get more info on the Max Payne remakes, as well as Control 2 and Condor, in the coming months. Stay tuned for more.
