The next few weeks could potentially change the course of the Galactic War in Helldivers 2 as we know it. Aside from the impending arrival of the Escalation of Freedom update, Arrowhead Game Studios is unsurprisingly developing even more content for players to enjoy. And one of the gameplay elements you can expect to enjoy (or suffer through) in the future is a “planetary modifier that will see new lethal variants of some of our existing bugs spawn.”

That’s according to Vidar Rapp, one of the many talented character artists for Helldivers 2, in this week’s edition of Arrowhead Insider, AGS’s community update. “I’m pleased with how they are turning out, and I think they will present a unique challenge for the Helldivers,” Rapp added. Unfortunately, the mini-interview didn’t include a preview of these bugs, so you’ll have to wait until its release to find out exactly what these upcoming enemies will be capable of.

Although it’s currently unclear when this planetary modifier will launch, it likely won’t drop alongside the Escalation of Freedom release date. After all, the next major patch is already introducing several new enemies, including the Impaler and the Spore Charger, which means AGS may be saving these lethal bug variants for a smaller content update. That said, things should start ramping up soon since the devs are set to return from their “summer break” in mid-August, if not earlier.
