Uzumaki anime from Junji Ito premieres in September, new trailer

The upcoming anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s Uzumaki is set to premiere on September 28 on Adult Swim.

The anime will air every Saturday, with each episode hitting Max the next day, followed by a dub encore on the following Thursday

The Uzumaki anime has been in the works for at least five years, with the anthology series Junji Ito Maniac having come and gone in that time. But with the premiere finally only a few months away, Adult Swim released a new trailer you can check out below.

In the town of Kurouzu-cho, Kirie Goshima lives a fairly normal life with her family. As she walks to the train station one day to meet her boyfriend, Shuuichi Saito, she sees his father staring at a snail shell in an alley. Thinking nothing of it, she mentions the incident to Shuuichi, who says that his father has been acting weird lately. Shuuichi reveals his rising desire to leave the town with Kirie, saying that the town is infected with spirals.

But his father’s obsession with the shape soon proves deadly, beginning a chain of horrific and unexplainable events that causes the residents of Kurouzu-cho to spiral into madness.

Interestingly, Uzumaki has been adapted before. A live-action film based on the manga released nearly 25 years ago in 2000.
