MATH LESSON FOR OILERS

The Edmonton Oilers made a gallant effort to win the Stanley Cup, but here is a math lesson: Yes, the Toronto Maple Leafs came back from a three-to-nothing deficit to win the silverware, but that was when the wheel was being invented (in 1942).

When a team is down by such a margin, three games to none, the odds are virtually impossible for it to overcome such a deficit, plain and simple.

Congrats to the Florida Panthers, who fully deserved hockey’s holy grail.

STANLEY STILL NOT COMING HOME

Well, Stanley decided to extend his time off in the United States, but philosophically it was Canadian hockey players who played a huge role in winning the Stanley Cup for the Americans. I understand there are currently 13 Canadian-born players on the Florida Panthers’ roster. So there is a little comfort.

DISINFORMATION INDEED

Anita Anand has recently confirmed that her government has paid out at least $1.7 million over the last four years to social-media influencers. The Treasury Board president claims it’s to combat “disinformation” on platforms that Gen-Z and millennials frequent.

This could have been a good idea if people actually felt that these “influencers” shared well-vetted, factual information, and don’t just continue to propagate a political message that’s acceptable to those who pay the bills.

To suggest otherwise sure sounds like disinformation to me.

CAN’T EVEN HANG ON TO THAT RIDING?

So now, Mr. Trudeau, you cannot even hang on to ridings like the one in Toronto that was Liberal for 30 years before going Conservative on Monday.

I’m pretty sure your over-confidence will mean you will wave this away as a one-off and that you think you will still take the next election. At least I hope that is what you think because the one thing that will most certainly spell doom for the Liberals next year is for you to stay in power personally until then.
