Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery has added a new location for players to explore in the game, letting them finally access Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom. Myrtle is the ghost of a deceased student in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and the books and movies the game is based on, and she famously spends her time crying inside the plumbing of the bathroom she died in.

Hogwarts Mystery is a free-to-play mobile game that launched in April 2018. The game places new players in the role of a first-year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and regular content updates have expanded the story through all seven years of schooling at the castle and beyond.

In a recent interview with Game Rant, a Hogwarts Mystery developer reveals how his team has worked to expand the Wizarding World for fans.

Hogwarts Mystery hosts regular game events allowing players to earn special rewards, and news of this one was announced on Twitter on May 31. The announcement states that the bathroom location had been made available at the time of posting, and that players who make their way there will receive a limited-time reward. However, many players on both Twitter and Reddit have reported that they have been unable to find the bathroom where Myrtle resides, with many expecting it to be added to the game soon. As no one seems to have reported finding the bathroom yet, the limited-time reward remains a mystery within Hogwarts Mystery.



Hogwarts Mystery Looks to the Future

At release, the mobile game launched to unfavorable reviews, and despite its free-to-play status, its critics and players were not happy with the amount of microtransactions needed to continue Hogwarts Mystery’s story without having to wait for energy to reload. Additionally, some quests were placed on a timer, and players who weren’t able to properly time their energy refills or simply pay for them weren’t able to complete these missions, which disappointed many Harry Potter fans after a decent buzz of excitement leading up to the mobile game’s release.

That said, the Beyond Hogwarts expansion released in mid-2023 has redeemed Hogwarts Mystery in the eyes of many fans. Having already run through the full seven years at Hogwarts, the expansion instead places players who are all caught up on the game’s story into a new adventure as adults living in Diagon Alley, Godric’s Hollow, or Hogsmeade. The latest content update is considered to be Volume 1 of this continuing tale, so longtime players or those who left the game long ago may want to watch out for further updates to see the directions that the developers will take the game next.
