Surprise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is Xbox’s Mystery Showcase Game

Activision Blizzard and Xbox have officially revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and we’ll get to learn more about the game during Xbox’s showcase next month.

When Xbox announced its June showcase at the end of April, it accompanied the announcement with a picture that featured a game’s logo and publisher name obscured by black bars.

That publisher was pretty clearly Activision, and by extension, it was obvious to most that the game in question was Call of Duty. The only ambiguity that remained was what the game would actually be called.

Ooh, evocative.

Along with the announcement of the game itself, the first teaser for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been released.

It’s a short one, clocking in at just 40 seconds or so, and it shows a couple of figures traipsing up to Mount Rushmore, where the four iconic heads have had their eyes obscured by blindfolds that read “THE TRUTH LIES”.

The teaser is simply titled “wake up (rushmore)”, which makes it sound like a comeback song by a classic 2000s indie band. It’s not, though, and you can check it out right here.

With Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Xbox and Activision are apparently pulling a Goat Simulator 3, skipping Black Ops 5 (although the intervening game does actually exist in this case).

This also puts the kibosh on the idea that the game would be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, which, if you ask me, is a slightly more interesting title than the straightforward numbering that Activision has opted for.

Still, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is now official, and we’ll get to learn more about it during the Xbox showcase in June. That showcase is scheduled to air on June 9th at 10am Pacific or your local equivalent.
