To immerse oneself in the Star Wars universe can be fairly easily done when entering the first-person perspective. Plenty of the best Star Wars games exist within the FPS genre, allowing players to hop into the shoes of a Jedi, a Sith, or a soldier on the ground, shooting their blasters, deflecting bolts with lightsabers, and truly being a part of the war in the galaxy far, far away.

8 Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)

EA and DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront was a big leap in technology, thanks to the fact that they would scan in real props from the Star Wars universe. Yet, despite their ambition and clear love of the series, on a game that is still one of the most visually impressive games of all time, Star Wars: Battlefront lacked the future charm that its sequel would have, and the nostalgia brimming from the previous Battlefront entries.

EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront was a fun time, but the game modes were very limited. Players could hop in only as Rebels or Stormtroopers, building different classes with star cards and weapons, and maybe getting lucky enough to enter the arena as Darth Vader and Luke. Yet, Battlefront falls short specifically because it’s only the Original Trilogy, meaning it’s just blaster action.

7 Star Wars: Battlefront (2004)

Multiplayer action has never looked or felt so good for 2004 with the original Star Wars: Battlefront. In this game, players could truly feel like they were a part of the Star Wars universe, embarking on warfare across the galaxy, spanning the Original and Prequel trilogy. There was a multitude of game modes available for players to try, and running around as a Clone Trooper or a Droid felt great, especially with such expansive maps that had multiple vehicles to use.

Battlefront had a lot of freedom in its large maps, allowing players to jump into iconic Star Wars vehicles and fight their foes on land, air, or even space. Battlefront also had a few iconic heroes and villains, although a tad overpowered, but still ambitious.

6 Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster

Star Wars: Dark Forces feels a lot like DOOM, if the latter was set in the Star Wars universe. The game itself has the Rebel Alliance’s covert operations division take the fight to the Empire, infiltrating it to unveil their secrets, and uncover ways in which the Rebels can win the ongoing fight and restore justice and freedom to the galaxy.

Star Wars: Dark Forces set a standard for FPS games in 1995, with a great degree of movement and interactive environments. Players can engage in multiple battles with various enemy types, with a selection of weapons and items to engage in the galactic perils of Kyle Katarn’s fight.

5 Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2

Kyle Katarn returns as one of the best Star Wars Legends characters in Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. This character has held an iconic legacy within the Legends community, and in the game itself, Kyle must learn the ways of the Force and battle against foes that threaten the galaxy and the legacy of the Jedi, fighting for peace and justice has never felt so good.

What makes Dark Forces 2 a superior game to its predecessor is the fact that players can wield the dark side and the light, along with some fairly impressive graphics for its 1997 release. Players can explore new environments, and battle new and violent enemies with an arsenal of weapons.

4 Star Wars: Republic Commando

Leading an elite squad of Republic Commandos has never felt so cool, and Star Wars: Republic Commando has it all. Returning voices from Temuera Morrison, a battle between the Republic and Separatists, and a starting level that takes place on the Battle of Geonosis. Star Wars: Republic Commando is a gritty story of war and brotherhood in a galaxy that doesn’t remember its soldiers, just its Jedi and Sith.

Players will infiltrate and dominate the Separatist cells that threaten the peace of the galaxy, as well as combine their smarts for an innovative squad control system that allows them to use each Commando unit for their unique specialty.

3 Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005)

The original Star Wars: Battlefront 2 harbors nostalgia for all, providing players with memorable maps and iconic locations to do battle in. Battlefront 2 is a great first-person Star Wars game, putting players on the ground, or in starfighters to fight each other in co-op, online play, or against AI-controlled enemies to bring peace, freedom, and justice to the galaxy far, far away.

The original 2005 Battlefront 2 is beloved by all thanks to its great shooting mechanics, and its plethora of characters both good and evil that players can jump into. Even better still, is the campaign, which follows Anakin’s 501st Clone Trooper legion, voiced again by Temuera Morrison in a gritty telling of Order 66 and beyond.

2 Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast

In this title, players can use their lightsaber and blaster to combine the beauty of combat alongside their Force powers, snuffing out the evil that plagues the galaxy. With 8 Force abilities, 13 weapons, and iconic returning Star Wars characters, Jedi Knights 2: Jedi Outcast is an immersive thrill for Star Wars fans.

The lightsaber combat itself is some of the best it has ever been, and it’s been hard to replicate just how fun and challenging the combat can be, especially from a first-person perspective. Wielding a lightsaber feels great, and the swinging and deflecting make combat with AI or player-controlled characters a thrill.

1 Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2017)

Despite a rocky launch plagued by lootboxes and microtransactions galore, EA and DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront 2 made its way to the title of the best FPS Star Wars game thanks to its stellar graphics, a multitude of game modes, and investment in the Skywalker Saga, bringing the Original, Prequel, and Sequel Trilogies to the hands of gamers. Large-scale battles, an intensive story mode set after Return of the Jedi, and plenty of Jedi vs Sith battles, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 was great, and is still great.

Ever since the release of the Prequel content, Battlefront 2 has managed to impress. Players can easily immerse themselves in the multitude of wars, whether it’s the Empire vs Rebels, Republic vs Separatists, or Resistance vs First Order, this FPS title can be experienced in the third-person, but there’s no feeling quite like running around in first-person, blaster in hand as AT-ATs stomp, TIE Fighters fly overhead, and the ominous breathing of Darth Vader can be heard alongside the ignition of a lightsaber.
