How to Get Lionel’s Armor Set

When starting out in Elden Ring, every player begins with an armor set, unless one chooses the Wretch class—the only starter class with no armor. Aside from the Samurai, Warrior, and Vagabond, the rest of the starting classes feature mediocre or subpar armor sets, compelling players to seek alternative options as they venture into the realm of Lands Between. Fortunately, FromSoft has included well over 140 armor sets in Elden Ring, setting a new standard for fashion in the soulsborne genre.

There are armor sets available for all scenarios in Elden Ring. If you find yourself struggling against Radagon & Elden Beast boss fight, consider wearing an armor set with high Holy resistance, such as the Crucible Knight set. If you’re lacking a few stat points and prefer not to use a talisman, explore stat-boosting armor pieces like Glintstone Crowns, Albinauric Mask, Commoner’s Garb, and more. FromSoft has also included an incredible armor set called Lionel’s Armor set, designed for countering one of the franchise’s toughest bosses, Malenia.

Lionel’s armor set provides high resistance to Slash and Pierce damage, which are Malenia’s common types of attacks. If you team it up with the Dragoncrest Greatshield talisman, Black Flame’s Protection, or eat Boiled Prawn, dealing with Malenia becomes much easier. Here’s how to get Lionel’s armor set in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring: Lionel’s Armor Set Location

Elden Ring - picking Lionel's armor

Lionel’s armor set is worn by Lionel the Lionhearted, who players meet as an NPC summon when fighting General Radahn and later as an invader near the end of Fia’s questline. What’s unique is that unlike other NPC enemies, Lionel doesn’t drop his armor when defeated. To get his armor set, players need to pick it up from the building with the Lower Capital Church site of grace in Leyndell, Royal Capital.

Draconic Tree Sentinel Lightning Attack

To reach this location, players must first gain access to Leyndell by defeating two shard bearers and the Draconic Tree Sentinel guarding the entrance to the Royal Capital. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, and Godrick the Grafted are among the easiest shard bearers to defeat in Elden Ring. After obtaining two great runes from them, head to the Altus Plateau and follow the Altus Highway eastward to reach the Altus Plateau. The entrance will be guarded by the Draconic Tree Sentinel, one of the toughest enemies, but it can be easily overcome by casting Poison Mist after sneaking behind its back. Alternatively, players seeking a challenge can choose to fight the boss directly to gain access to Leyndell.

Upon defeating the Draconic Tree Sentinel, players will soon find themselves at the East Capital Rampart by following the path in front of them. From here, take the west exit and head south, running past all Oracle Envoys. Players can either traverse through the buildings to reach the Avenue Balcony grace site or perform parkour on the roofs of the buildings to get there. If opting for the roof shortcut, be cautious of the imps guarding the roof, as they can be surprisingly fast and overpower unaware players.

From Avenue Balcony, head down the stairs to the northwest and take a left turn after leaving the room. Jump into the damaged town on the left side, and look for the building with the Lower Capital Church site of grace. Players can locate this building by heading in the south direction. While an Omenkiller guards the entrance, defeating it isn’t necessary; players can run to the grace site and rest to avoid the fight.

Next to the Lower Capital Church grace site, players will find Lionel’s complete set lying on a burnt corpse, accompanied by another armor called Deathbed Dress.

Lionel’s armor set cannot be obtained after defeating Maliketh, the Black Blade. Following Maliketh’s defeat, the ashes from the Erdtree render the area inaccessible, transforming the Royal Capital into the Ashen Capital.
