Spider-Man 2 Has Another Chance to Win a Major Game of the Year Award

Highlights

  • Spider-Man 2 is nominated for the most awards at the DICE Awards, with a chance to make up for its loss at The Game Awards 2023.
  • The DICE Awards nominations differ from The Game Awards, with games like Hogwarts Legacy receiving recognition.
  • The winners of the DICE Awards will be announced on February 15, revealing which games take home the top prizes.

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences has announced its nominees for the 27th Annual DICE Awards, honoring the best games that were released in 2023 in a variety of categories, with Spider-Man 2 finding itself nominated for the most awards at nine. The DICE Awards are considered some of the most prestigious in gaming.

Spider-Man 2 has found itself nominated for multiple Game of the Year awards. Notably, Spider-Man 2 was nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023, but it ultimately lost to Baldur’s Gate 3. Spider-Man 2 controversially didn’t win in any of the categories it was nominated for at The Game Awards 2023, so it will be interesting to see if it has any better luck at the DICE Awards.

Insomniac Leak Reveals Possible Spider-Man 2 DLC with Unexpected Character

A recently discovered set of files hints at a possible upcoming DLC for Spider-Man 2 which will reportedly introduce a character from the comics.

Spider-Man 2 is nominated for Game of the Year alongside other heavy hitters like Alan Wake 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, Cocoon, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It seems most publications gave their Game of the Year nod to Baldur’s Gate 3 or The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, though Spider-Man 2 was voted Game of the Year by PlayStation Blog readers. There are some notable differences when comparing the DICE Awards to The Game Awards. Whereas Hogwarts Legacy was snubbed by The Game Awards, it’s nominated for two DICE awards – Outstanding Technical Achievement and Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction. However, it seems that Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake has been snubbed by DICE, whereas it was nominated for multiple awards at The Game Awards.

It’s unclear why Resident Evil 4 wasn’t nominated for any DICE awards. One would think it may be due to a no-remake rule or something, but that theory goes out the window because the Dead Space remake is nominated for Action Game of the Year. Whatever the case may be, fans will find out on February 15 which games win which awards, and if Spider-Man 2 is able to makeup for its under-performance at The Game Awards 2023.
