Four people were charged and two guns seized during separate investigations in Vaughan on New Year’s Eve.

York Regional Police were conducting a RIDE spot check at Hwy. 7 W. and Bowes Rd. at about 9 p.m. when a black Nissan with two men and one woman inside approached the check point.

Officers “immediately noticed a strong smell of cannabis,” Const. Lisa Moskaluk alleged in a news release.
Police allegedly found two large bags with a quantity of cannabis, smaller plastic bags containing cannabis, a scale and a black satchel with a handgun inside.
Cops claim the firearm was fully loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition and had no serial number on it. Several loose .22-calibre rounds were also allegedly located within the bag.
The firearm is believed to be a 3-D-printed ghost gun.
The driver was not impaired.
Phillisha Franklyn, 20, Isaac Lambfal Solomon Scott, 19, and Anferney Manuel Ventura Reyes, 20, all of Hamilton, have been charged with various firearms offences, as well as possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution.

Franklyn was out on bail for unrelated charges and has also been charged with failing to comply with an undertaking.
About six hours later, on Jan. 1, police responded to a driver asleep at the wheel, in the left turn lane on Rutherford Rd. at Jane St.
When officers arrived, they allegedly found a man passed out behind the wheel. The vehicle was blocked to prevent the driver from driving away.
“When officers were eventually able to wake the driver, he put the vehicle in drive and struck one of the cruisers,” Moskaluk alleged. “Upon search of the vehicle, police located an open bottle of alcohol on the passenger seat.”

“As they searched the driver, they found a loaded handgun in the waistband of his pants. They also seized a quantity of drugs, suspected to be fentanyl,” she alleged.
Christian Marius Kamukuny, 23, of Brampton, was charged with various firearms offences, including possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, impaired operation and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
At the time of his arrest, Kumanuny was on a lifetime firearms prohibition.
