Much like many of Epic Games’ past updates, one of the latest Fortnite patches has brought plenty of new changes to the battle royale, though one “tedious” new feature isn’t being welcomed like the others. The layout of the in-game locker, which, for those unfamiliar, is typically where all your cosmetics, accessories, and precious skins are kept, has been drastically changed by the developers and is now more taxing to use than before.

Though this update isn’t quite a part of the latest Fortnite patch notes released on January 2, 2024, this hasn’t stopped disgruntled players from complaining about the locker’s frustrating new design, as evidenced by one Fortnite subreddit post. The post in question gets right to the heart of the matter with a short video depicting how long it takes to apply a complete character preset. Based on the brief clip, the entire process now takes around 23 seconds and 11 clicks, whereas before, it only took two clicks.

The relatively lengthy preset application process is mainly caused by the seemingly endless navigation you need to do to get through different preset pages. In addition, these layout issues are further exacerbated on consoles since PlayStation and Xbox players have to manually scroll through “each and every single preset” before they can find the accessory or cosmetic they’re looking for.

Most players commenting below the Reddit thread are baffled by Epic Games’ decision to change the already perfect locker UI, with one user saying: “I still can’t believe someone signed off on this bullshit thinking it was better. Especially when the way it was before was perfect as it was.” The developers have yet to respond to these complaints, so whether its design will be reverted remains unclear. However, the community’s collective frustration may eventually force them to bring back the previously functional layout.
