Call of Duty Zombies Equipment Tier List

Highlights

  • Wonder Weapons like the Wunderwaffe DG-2 and Thundergun provide memorable experiences and chain electricity between undead foes in Call of Duty Zombies. However, equipment should not be overlooked.
  • Lethal and tactical equipment like Lil’ Arnies and Homunculuses attract and decimate the undead, while the Hacker saves money and the Time Bomb allows for perk doubling.
  • The A-Tier includes items like Monkey Bombs, Decoy Grenades, and the Wraith Fire, while the B-Tier features options like Molotovs, mines, and throwing knives. C-Tier equipment to avoid includes EMP Grenades and the Black Ops 4 Sentry Guns.

When thinking of ways to combat the undead in Call of Duty Zombies, players likely think of its iconic Wonder Weapons before anything else. The electricity chaining between undead foes when they are hit with a Wunderwaffe DG-2, enemies being launched through the sky with the Thundergun, and the Apothicon Servant swallowing zombies into a black hole are all memorable experiences provided by this weapon type. Zombies’ various traps will likely come to mind next, be it the Flogger from Shi No Numa or the Death Ray from Der Eisendrache. However, Call of Duty Zombies’ lethal and tactical equipment are unsung heroes, as there have been some game-changing items for players to wield in CoD Zombies’ many maps.

The following Tier List will not include craftables like the Turbines and traps from TranZit, Die Rise, and Buried. Melee weapons are also not included.

  • Lil’ Arnies
  • Homunculus
  • Time Bomb
  • Hacker
  • Maxis Drone
  • Guard of Fafnir
  • Skull of Nan-Sapwe
  • Ragnarok DG-4
  • Gersh Device/LT53 Kazimir

  • Brazen Bull
  • Apollo’s Will
  • Ballistic Shield
  • Hell’s Retriever
  • Aether Blade

Gamers wondering just how powerful equipment has been throughout Call of Duty Zombies’ history need look no further than the stacked S-Tier. Lil’ Arnies and Homunculuses not only attract the undead, but decimate them. The Hacker allows careful players to save tremendous amounts of money, whereas the Time Bomb lets players double up on perks and return to earlier points in the match if things go wrong. The Aether Blade and Hell’s Retriever are deadly throwable weapons that return to the player, while shields like the Guard of Fafnir and special weapons like the Skull of Nan-Sapwe can protect the player while also dishing out major damage.

A-Tier

  • Monkey Bomb
  • Decoys
  • Wraith Fire
  • Sekhmet’s Vigor
  • Gauntlet of Siegfried
  • Pegasus Strike

The A-tier category is home to the best regular equipment items in the game. For lethals, this is the Wraith Fire, a piece of equipment that can wipe out entire hordes while still recharging fairly quickly. For tacticals, this is the Decoy Grenades, as they are essentially easily refillable Monkey Bombs without the explosion effect, but with the benefit of being thrown quicker. Speaking of the Monkey Bomb, it finds itself below the Arnies and Homunculuses because of its long chargeup time, as players attempting to throw it while stuck in a corner will die before it goes off. Sekhmet’s Vigor is essentially a revive stick, which is a powerful tool that is only held back by its inaccuracy. The Pegasus Strike is incredibly fun and strong, but players being limited to one use every several minutes is problematic. As for the Gauntlet of Siegfried, its main weakness is that its punch can get players in trouble in high rounds, though the whelp’s flames are very useful.

B-Tier

Modern-Warfare-2-Throwing-Knife-Broken

  • Molotov
  • Spikemore/Claymore
  • Bouncing Betties
  • Proximity Mine
  • C4
  • Throwing Knife/Tomahawk
  • Rocket Shield/Zombie Shield
  • Frag Grenade
  • Matryoshka Dolls
  • QED Device
  • Gas Grenades
  • Stim
  • Stun Grenades
  • Breacher Drone
  • Annihilator

B Tier is packed with equipment, as there are plenty of middle-of-the-road options available to players in Call of Duty Zombies. Molotovs are good but are just weaker Wraith Fires, while Mines, Betties, and Claymores all do what players would expect but are hardly the most reliable method of killing. C4 has the benefit of players setting it off at the time of their choice, but doesn’t have a huge blast radius, and both Frag Grenades and Breacher Drones have a similar downside. Throwing Knives and Tomahawks may only be able to kill one zombie at a time, but they deal major damage to CoD Zombies’ mini bosses and can be picked up for reuse.

Though it still serves its main purpose of back protection, the Rocket Shield’s special ability is more likely to get players killed than anything else, with the Matryoshka Dolls also very likely to cause downs if players lack PhD Flopper. The Annihilator Pistol stops being a one-hit kill too early, even if it is fun, while the stun grenade window is useful but brief. Gas Grenades have been nerfed in MWZ, meaning they are a bit less impactful, while the slow activation time of Stims in MWZ means they are riskier to use than in Black Ops Cold War. Lastly, though players with luck on their side can see many benefits from the QED, the risk of losing points or running into other negative effects makes the RNG grenade too unreliable to place higher.

Some maps allow certain equipment pieces to shine a bit more. For example, the wallbuys for Frag Grenades on Kino Der Toten and Nacht Der Untoten are perfectly placed, meaning that they would be an A-Tier choice on those specific maps.

C-Tier

modern warfare 2 lethal drill charge

  • Semtex
  • Acid Bomb
  • Sentry Gun
  • EMP Grenades
  • Smoke Grenades
  • Scatter Mine
  • Shock Stick
  • Snapshot Grenades
  • Drill Charges
  • Thermite

Though there are no truly awful equipment options in Call of Duty Zombies, there are some that players should try to avoid. EMP Grenades being used to troll players or accidentally make things harder has been well documented, as the risk of closing the Mystery Box or shutting off Perk Machines is not worth the Avogadro stuns. Acid Bombs and Semtex grenades being sticky makes them dangerous, too, as stuck Zombies can run at players and cause splash damage. Drill Charges are useless beyond killing the shield-using Mercenaries in MWZ, making them something that is not worth carrying around. Thermite, Shock Sticks, Scatter Mines, Snapshot Grenades, and Smoke Grenades all have better alternatives available; in the case of the first three items, Molotovs, Stun Grenades, and Shatter Blast exist, while Death Perception and Aether Shroud can be used in place of the other two.
