LeBron James Wants To Start Streaming Video Games

Highlights

  • LeBron James is considering streaming his Madden NFL 24 games, which could boost the popularity of streaming platforms.
  • Madden NFL 24 may not be a groundbreaking game, but it still appeals to diehard NFL fans.
  • Kick and Twitch are competing for James to stream on their platforms, with both offering unique advantages, while his fans have their own preferences.

LeBron James, one of the greatest basketball players still on the court today, has just spoken up about possibly streaming games of Madden NFL 24. The Los Angeles Lakers legend is a huge Madden fan (even playing it in the jumbo screen at SoFi Stadium once), as well as an avid gamer with his own line of custom LeBron PlayStation 5 accessories. Being one of the most popular celebrities in the world would definitely be a big boon to the viewer base of today’s biggest streaming platforms.

Madden NFL 24 is EA Sports’ 2023 entry in its decades-long American football franchise, and while fans don’t find it a terrible game, it hasn’t really set the world on fire, even among the diehards. It’s still a reliable way for the most diehard NFL fans to keep playing with updated rosters, especially promising rookies, which is why lifelong football devotees such as James don’t miss getting the new games each year.

Madden NFL 24: 6 Teams Worth Rebuilding In Franchise Mode

Several teams are ripe for rebuilding in Madden NFL 24. These examples are a good place to start.

In a recent tweet, James wondered out loud if he should start streaming his Madden 24 games, and asked the world which streaming platform he should take his talents to. Two of the biggest players in the streaming space wasted no time in pitching their services: Kick cofounder and streamer Trainwreck immediately asked James straight up to come to their site, while chill Twitch CEO Dan Clancy had a bit more finesse in selling the Amazon-run platform as the best way for the star to engage with his fans. Clancy went a diplomatic step further by suggesting that James could also maximize his potential by streaming on both Twitch and its Google-run rival YouTube at the same time.

James’s fans also chimed in with their own opinions representing all three platforms, while many others just want to be a part of his online games on stream. Kick, known for its looser moderation and reportedly higher revenue share for streamers, had a lot of partners in the star’s replies angling to get him in order to boost the up-and-comer’s profile in a big way. LeBron James coming to the upstart would be the biggest get for Kick after signing a number of big names over the past few months, solidifying it as a platform to watch despite potential problems arising from its lax environment.

While James’s tweet only seems to be an exploratory endeavor into a new world for him, his following through on it would be a safe bet. James has already had a lot of sidequests in the gaming space, and it’s most likely that he’s already set on doing it—he just wanted to put this idea out in public to gauge how everyone would react. With his NBA career beginning to wind down, streaming video games definitely isn’t a bad way to spend his eventual retirement.
