Highlights

  • The upcoming Yakuza game, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, will feature a Pokemon-like mode called Sujimon, where players can recruit and battle dangerous individuals found throughout the game’s new map.
  • Players can strengthen and evolve their Sujimon, similar to Pokemon, by improving their abilities and affinities through training and battles.
  • In addition to the Sujimon mode, the game will also include staple activities from the franchise like mahjong and karaoke, as well as a new mode called Dondoko Island reminiscent of Animal Crossing, where players can customize the island and build relationships with locals.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has revealed that the next game in the Yakuza franchise, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, will be getting a mode that is similar to Pokemon. Infinite Wealth is set to release in January 2024, and as such, RGG Studio has been releasing information about the game to get fans excited. Just last week, the team announced that Infinite Wealth would have a roguelike feature in the form of a new dungeon that changes every time the player enters.

However, this brand-new dungeon is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to activities in Infinite Wealth. Staples to the franchise such as mahjong and karaoke will be making a return, as well as a brand new mode that is reminiscent of Animal Crossing, called Dondoko Island, where players can customize the entire island while making friends with the locals.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Jobs Revealed

Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio reveals several new Job Classes available for players to use in the upcoming Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

Now, a PR Times article that Gematsu translated is reporting that Infinite Wealth will have a Pokemon-like mode featuring Sujimon, who are “dangerous individuals” that can be found throughout the new map that is three times the size of Isezaki Ijincho. Ichiban Kasuga will sometimes be able to recruit a Sujimon after fighting them in order to build a team of six to take on a tournament held at the aptly titled Sujimon Stadium. There are other ways to recruit new Sujimon, such as battling them in limited-time raids and even using a luck-based mechanic in the form of a gacha spot. And just like Pokemon, these Sujimon will have different types and affinities, with Ichiban being able to strengthen and awaken them to improve their abilities, which will eventually cause them to evolve.

In addition, the article revealed that Ichiban will be getting an exclusive job in addition to his Hero class in Infinite Wealth, called the Sujimancer, which will allow him to summon a Sujimon in regular fights. The class will get stronger with the more Sujimon Ichiban recruits and trains, which will then, in turn, provide him with various attacks like the ‘Spicy Breath’ skill. Animal Crossing and Pokemon-like worlds will also collide, as Sujimon will not only train on Dondoko Island but can also help restore it by participating in activities like planting crops, which will then help increase their bond with Ichiban.

Sujimon were introduced in Yakuza: Like a Dragon through a unique side mission, which then expanded to Ichiban battling them in order to register their data in a Sujidex, a parody of the Pokedex. With Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth expanding the Sujimon feature, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s next game is looking to be an ambitious one that will keep fans entertained for hours.
