Florida ‘McLegend’ celebrates 53 years working at McDonald’s

A Florida woman has been serving up Big Macs and French fries before McDonald’s even got its first drive-thru.

Barbara Cramer has been working at the fast-food chain since 1970 and was celebrated by management and co-workers at the Fort Pierce, Fla., location.

When asked about the more than half-century milestone and what it meant to her, the 75-year-old told WPTV, “Everything. I just love it here.”

The longtime employee, dubbed “McLegend” by those who know her, told the outlet the she first was offered a position in 1970.

Cramer, who is originally from New Jersey, told the outlet she has never considered working anywhere else.

“I just applied for the school board, and then the next day I applied here at this store, and they called me first,” she said.

“So I came here, and I winded up working my way up.”

Cramer has worked at her current location for most of her 53 years with the chain but also spent time at other McDonald’s restaurants in the state.

Photos of Cramer over the years, a commemorative, celebratory sign and lots of balloons and decorations filled the restaurant last week, as Ricky Wade, the location’s owner, expressed that he was “proud to have you as part of our family.”

He added: “We are honoured to celebrate this special moment with you.”

Cramer’s first husband worked with her at McDonald’s before he passed away, while her second husband worked at another Florida location, the outlet reported.

He also died, but she continued working.

Cramer, who calls herself “semi-retired” but also works part-time at a few locations, said she has no plans to fully retire anytime soon.
