Humble Beginnings

A spellcaster Sim is reading a tome in front of the Magic Realm and Willow Creek for the start of the Enchanted Cottage Challenge

To begin this challenge, create a young adult spellcaster Sim. It’s best to set the lifespan to long in settings to ensure you’ll have enough time to complete the challenge in the Sim’s lifetime. Move them into a starter home or build a small house in Willow Creek to act as their childhood home. Now, they just need a dream. Give them the Country Caretaker aspiration, which will motivate them to move out to Henford-On-Bagley and start living out their cottagecore dreams.

There are a few things your spellcaster will need to start the challenge. Take your Sim to The Magic Realm for some supplies, including a broom, a familiar, and a wand. You’ll need to purchase the ancient wooden wand (§25), a common familiar (§100), and either the mop (§40) or the gnarled broom (§140). After purchasing a home and all the required resources, set the household money to zero simoleons by enabling cheats and entering “money 0” into the cheat bar. Guide your Sim as they experience life with empty pockets and big dreams.

Setting The Story & Discovering Henford-On-Bagley

A Sim is excited to be getting to know Henford-On-Bagley locals like Sara Scott and Kim Goldbloom

Now it’s time to start spinning the storyline. Your Sim knows they want something bigger in their life, but they feel cramped and stuck in their Willow Creek home. Travel to at least two different worlds and spend one full day and night with them. Worlds like Evergreen Harbor, from the Eco Lifestyle expansion, are great for foraging in dumpsters. Borrow meals from townies or generous NPCs grilling in the park. After living in two other worlds, your Sim gets frustrated that none of these worlds feel like home and decides to try one more world – Henford-On-Bagley – before going back home.

Explore the destination worlds in The Sims 4 with this unique gameplay challenge

Life is simple and cozy in Henford-On-Bagley and your Sim could easily see themselves starting a new life here. Just like the other worlds, your Sim must spend one full day and night exploring the world and scoping out popular spots. Visit The Gnome’s Arms pub to get to know the locals and make friends.

The creator of the challenge has laid out the rules for your Sim before they can purchase property and start building their cottage farm. First, meet the business owners in town, including both of the Crumplebottoms, Kim Goldbloom, Sara Scott, and one of the grocery deliverers in town. Secondly, you must meet and befriend the mayor, Lavina Chopra. Run errands for these Henforders to earn things like ingredients, food, and simoleons. For easier errands, talk to Lavina. Grocery store owners have more difficult errands with bigger rewards. After completing these objectives, it’s time to start planting some roots.

Building A Home

A Sim is in a thinking pose in front of a large farmhouse for the Enchanted Cottage Challenge

Your Sim is ambitious and – with the encouragement of their new friends – decides to purchase the 64 x 64 lot called Olde Mill Hill in Henford-On-Bagley. To do this, you will unfortunately have to move the Watson family out and bulldoze their property. You may move them in on another lot if you so choose. Your Sim may move onto this property free of charge if you use the freerealestate cheat or you could challenge your Sim to make enough money to purchase the newly empty lot.

Make this lot more homey by earning enough money to start a garden and buy coops and sheds for animals. Give this new home some lot traits and a lot challenge. There are several to choose from, but you must add the Simple Living challenge. Your Sim will be forced to use ingredients from their fridge or inventory to cook. You must have either grown the ingredients in your garden, harvested the resources from farm animals, or purchased them at the market. Remember to name the farm by renaming the lot from Olde Mill Hill to something more relevant to your Sim.

Completing The Challenge

Now your Sim is ready to start completing the objectives for this challenge. Each entry entails different information about starting a life and finishing the Enchanted Cottage Challenge. Once all goals have been accomplished, feel free to start a family to continue the legacy.

Live Off The Land & Finish The Cottage

Your Sim must not have a traditional job. There are several ways to make money organically, including fishing, gardening, painting, and selling collectibles. To avoid having to pay bills, it might help to equip the off-the-grid lot challenge.

Your Sim will learn how to perfect the art of living off of their land. You’ve got food covered with fruits and vegetables from your garden. Become a crop collector by growing one of each kind of oversized crop, including aubergines, lettuce, mushrooms, pumpkins, and watermelons along with smaller plants like blueberries, chocoberries, and raspberries. Befriend wild rabbits and birds to receive help with gardening. Purchase cows and chickens to get easy access to milk and eggs for cooking. Use wool from llamas for cross-stitching and knitting.

While it may have been beneficial for your Sim to live out of their tent on this lot and prioritize their funds towards money-makers like animals and gardening equipment, your Sim must finish building the cottage of their dreams by the end of the challenge.

Skills Master

Your Sim must master at least five different skills in their lifetime. There are several skills relevant to the Cottage Living expansion, including gardening, cooking, herbalism, cross-stitching, and knitting skills. Make your Sim a little more well-rounded with other hobbies like writing, painting, or singing.

It might have escaped you that your Sim is a spellcaster since your priorities lie on creating your dream cottage. This is the Enchanted Cottage Challenge after all! You can learn spells like Copypasto, Floralorial, Herbio, and Scruberoo to help your Sim in their daily life. Stop by The Magic Realm for new wands when you can afford them. Keep up practicing your Sim’s spellcasting skills in addition to their responsibilities on the farm. Your spellcaster Sim must become a virtuoso by the end of their life.

Become A Finchwick Champion

Thanks to your expert skills, it won’t be a challenge to win the Finchwick Fair competitions. Fairs take place every Saturday starting at 3:30 PM and ending at 9:30 PM. There are five different themes to the fairs: chicken fair, cow fair, llama fair, garden fair, and oversized crop fair.

Experience the full extent of the Cottage Living pack by completing the Country Caretaker Aspiration. To do so, your Sim will need to finish four sets of goals. These goals might be easy to complete if your Sim has already put in the hard work and dedication into their farm.

Level One: Campestral Curator

  • Purchase 1 Cow, Chicken, or Llama on Your Home Lot
  • Socialize with a Fox, Rabbit, or Bird 5 Times
  • Purchase 1 Garden Patch for Your Home Lot
  • Visit Finchwick, Old New Henford, and Bramblewood Neighborhoods

Level Two: Agrestic Savant

Level Three: Critter Keeper

  • Give 3 Gifts to Foxes, Rabbits or Birds
  • Craft 5 Animal Treats
  • Harvest 1 Perfect Quality Oversized Crop
  • Forage 5 Items from Bramblewood

Level Four: Legendairy

  • Reach Maximum Relationship with a Cow, Chicken, or Llama
  • Receive 3 Gifts from Rabbits or Birds
  • Win a Competition in Henford-On-Bagley’s Finchwick Fair

After finishing the aspiration, your Sim will earn the Nature Conservationalist reward trait. They will have an easier time building relationships with animals, who will live longer and happier lives. Thanks to this trait, rabbits and birds will bring more gifts and interact with plants, yielding a greater harvest for the garden. Your Sim will also receive free grocery delivery and a discount on their bills for completing their aspiration.
