Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe explained how he regularly ruins his character for fans. Radcliffe poked fun at how young fans are often surprised after they meet him for the first time.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the illustrious franchise’s first film, was released over 20 years ago in 2001. Since then, many things have changed, especially Harry Potter’s face, which can be startling to younger people still coming to grips with object permanence.

During the interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson discussed how she accidentally ruined Frozen for her kids by attempting to explain to them that movie characters, even animated ones, are portrayed by real, regular (ish) people. Drawing comparisons with Clarkson’s story, Radcliffe detailed how young fans are often shocked at his appearance, which is quite the departure from how he looked in the franchise’s final film released in 2011, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Radcliffe’s comical retelling of these interactions was met with boisterous laughter by the audience and host.

Radcliffe has maintained a relatively low profile following his Harry Potter fame, so it’s plausible that many young Harry Potter fans have only ever seen the actor in a wizarding context. Following the massive success of the Harry Potter films, Radcliffe took a step back from the limelight, preferring to participate in smaller productions. After starring in cult favorites such as Swiss Army Man and Imperium, he recently returned to a more mainstream production in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, which was still small-scale, sporting an $8 million budget.

Harry Potter had a massive impact on young demographics in the early 2000s and continues to. Thanks to the new Fantastic Beasts series, streaming services, and amusement park rides, the franchise continues to hold a significant influence in pop culture..Unfortunately for fans of Radcliffe’s Harry Potter performance, he’s confirmed that he has no wish to return to the franchise, despite the series’ original director expressing interest in making a new movie featuring the original actors.

Hogwarts Legacy was released this year, a highly-anticipated RPG video game centered around 19th-century Hogwarts. Sadly, Radcliffe was not in the game, but it was released to widespread acclaim and is likely in the running for a Game of the Year nomination. Any Harry Potter fan should consider checking it out.

The Harry Potter films are available on Max.
