While most players in Baldur’s Gate 3 will choose the usual custom origin, others who try out The Dark Urge are finding that it has ruined custom characters for them.

One Reddit post on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit outlines exactly what many players feel about The Dark Urge. It almost feels like the best way to run a BG3 playthrough.

This one Reddit post with over 4,000 upvotes really exemplifies how you can’t go back to custom character after playing The Dark Urge. Playing as this origin gives you an entirely different personal story that really makes it feel like it was meant for BG3.

This is due to a few reasons, as the user outlines, such as: choosing your moral path, getting a cool cloak, feeling more apart of the world, improved romance, and Act 3 being a lot more personal. It seems like most players in the responses agree, as do I.

I never realized how interesting The Dark Urge path was until I played it for myself. There are dozens of exclusive cutscenes and dialogue choices you wouldn’t have with a custom character.

The user also asks if there are any drawbacks to The Dark Urge origin, but it’s hard to point out what would be bad about it. The one good thing about a custom character is how open it is, while The Dark Urge pulls you mainly into one direction. Sure, this origin is for a very specific type of character, but playing a custom character then a Dark Urge one back-to-back was astounding to me.

If you don’t mind gore, The Dark Urge turns that up to ten in some instances. It’s for the players who want to play an evil character but always go back to being good. It’s cool to see how this one origin has changed the way players look at Baldur’s Gate 3 as a whole.
