Capcom formally revealed a brand-new trailer for an upcoming title in the long-running Monster Hunter franchise, Monster Hunter Wilds. This trailer was shown at The Game Awards 2023 show, which not only showcased awards for members in the gaming industry, but several trailers from various companies. This includes the likes of Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and Sega showing off exciting new titles at The Game Awards for fans to look forward to. Capcom was also present at the show, with an ambitious new Monster Hunter game being revealed.

Ever since 2018, Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise has become one of its most profitable franchises. This can be stemmed from the global success of Monster Hunter: World, a game developed to attract a large audience. This momentum continued into the 2020s, between the releases of Monster Hunter Rise, Rise‘s Sunbreak DLC, and the launch of Monster Hunter Now this past September. Capcom is continuing to capitalize with another game in the series seemingly modeled after World, Monster Hunter Wilds.

Monster Hunter Now reveals its first major update, with the Winter “Fulminations in the Frost” update adding new monsters, weapons, and more.

Capcom showed off Monster Hunter Wilds as the final world premiere trailer of The Game Awards 2023 show, with a release window for 2025. It starts with a rather realistic and gritty desert environment, inhabited by realistic, but still fantastical, creatures roaming around. As a storm starts brewing, it cuts to a hunter being chased while riding atop his bird-like mount, similar to the series’ Palamutes. They carry one of Monster Hunter‘s Great Swords, though they carefully navigate themselves around their enemies rather than try to take them all at once.

While the hunter is avoiding combat, the trailer shows a storm that can strike at a moment’s notice. This likely means having the player prioritize on avoiding the weather and lightning strikes when it happens, along with the monsters that are attacking them. Monster Hunter Wilds also shows great environmental traversal opportunities, such as being able to leap nimbly across rocks to get to a higher part of a mountain, or using their mount to glide through the air.

The end of the trailer shows the storm subsiding, with the environment calming down and color being restored to the area. After the trailer shows the game’s logo, Monster Hunter‘s iconic Rathalos can be seen flying overhead. This game is being developed for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, skipping out on the Nintendo Switch. With World‘s rather open structure, Wilds seems to be following in its footsteps, though it is too early to tell if the open nature of the game means that it will be an open-world game. Regardless, many people are excited for Capcom’s next monster hunting co-op adventure.
