Despite the prematurely released GTA 6 announcement video receiving immediate critical acclaim, those responsible for creating the upcoming series entry aren’t quite as pleased after many of the game’s developers expressed their dismay through social media following the trailer’s sudden launch.

With the GTA 6 release date window having been confirmed earlier than scheduled, Javier Altman, a senior gameplay animator for Rockstar Games, went on X (formerly Twitter) to convey his disappointment, stating: “I was hoping to watch this for the first time tomorrow along with my fellow teammates and coworkers. I feel we deserved that moment.”

Mark Tempini, a former producer and writer at Rockstar Games, shared a similar sentiment on X: “The last game I worked on at Rockstar. I’m gutted it was revealed the way it was but I hope you enjoy what the team’s been hard at work creating.” Tempini later added in a separate post: “The team deserved to watch it together and celebrate together. Heartbreaking that it was taken from them.”

For those unfamiliar, the GTA 6 trailer release date was previously supposed to take place on December 5th at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM GMT. Unfortunately, a leak from an unknown source threw a wrench into Rockstar Games’ plans, forcing the game’s developers to launch it much earlier on December 4th to stay ahead of the situation.

Though many were still able to enjoy seeing GTA 6 for the first time, the damage had already been done, not only to the eager fan base that had been waiting for more than 10 years but also to the hardworking devs who had wanted to see the community’s reactions in real-time.

Now that the cat’s out of the bag, there’s sadly no undoing the damage already done to the GTA 6 community. All the loyal fan base can do now is wait until the game’s launch date arrives, at which point Rockstar Games will have likely provided more details on the GTA 6 PS4 and Xbox One compatibility and the GTA 6 cross-platform and crossplay functionality.
