Starfield Passes 12 Million Players as Phil Spencer Has “a Ton of Confidence” in Its Future

Today, during a panel at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer talked about Bethesda’s latest RPG, Starfield.

Spencer announced on stage during the livestreamed talk that the game has now passed 12 million players.

The previous update was provided by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at the end of October and it was at 11 million, so the game has drawn another million players in a little over a month.

Spencer also thanked the fans “for the support on Starfield and making it a tremendous hit,” also adding that it sits among the top 10 most played games by Microsoft’s studios.

Asked whether he expects the game to match The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim‘s longevity, the executive mentioned that is Microsoft’s goal and expressed confidence in the future of Starfield, which will soon receive a story-based expansion titled Shattered Space and full-fledged modding tools.

We’ve already announced that we’ve got our next expansion coming, Shattered Space, we’ve already told te community that they’ll get all the mod tools so that they can go and create their own content in Starfield, which has been so important to Skyrim, so I have a ton of confidence that for many many years Starfield will stay very very high in the gameplay.

Incidentally, since the show was in Brazil, Spencer also talked about the local market, mentioning that the country is the second-largest PC Game Pass market in the world and the largest market in the world for Samsung TVs using Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Starfield is currently available for PC and Xbox Series X|S, and you can also play it if you have a Game Pass subscription. If you haven’t purchased it yet, you can get a copy for Xbox Series X|S on Amazon.
