Shin Megami Tensei TTRPG Finally Getting English Localization

Atlus and Sega’s JRPG series, Shin Megami Tensei, has seen a growing fanbase outside of Japan. With that popularity, some of the franchises’ more niche bits of merchandise are beginning to see an international release. Including a Shin Megami Tensei TTRPG in English.

The Shin Megami Tensei TTRPG English localization

As found out by Resetera user HylianSeven, Amazon has listed an English language version of Shin Megami Tensei – The Roleplaying Game: Tokyo Conception.

It’s the end of the world. That’s how this game starts.

This TTRPG is an adaptation of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. The game is set in the Vortex World, a world full of angels, demons, and creatures from mythology, which was created after the world as we know it ended. Now, those forces fight to see who will rule this new world.

Players can take on different roles. They can play as humans who survived the apocalypse, demons who can serve or destroy humanity, or fiends who wield the unholy power of Magitama. The TTRPG even includes factions from the game such as the Assembly of Nihilo and the Mantra Army.

The publishing team behind this localization is Lionwing Publishing, a company dedicated to bringing Japanese TTRPGs to wider audiences. They have been behind English localizations of Gun and Gun, Convictor Drive, and Picaresque Roman.

The Shin Megami Tensei TTRPG may be the highest-profile project Lionwing has been credited with to date. In addition, the core rulebook is listed as 450 pages.

With the growing international community behind the main series, and its more upbeat spin-off series Persona, this English release might mean the start of more adaptations to come.

Hardcover copies of the English language Shin Megami Tensei TTRPG are available for pre-order right now on Amazon. It is scheduled to release on February 20, 2024.
