Is Legend of Ymir’s Intriguing Gameplay Reveal Good Enough to Make Your Stomach its NFT?

Korean developer WeMade revealed a new gameplay trailer of its upcoming MMORPG Legend of Ymir, showing some interesting and perhaps a bit quirky mechanics.

We get to see plenty of Norse mythology-inspired environments and characters on top of combat gameplay. The quirkiest part is the use of QuickTime events, which certainly seem to be a rather unique take for a MMORPG.

We also take a look at the game’s large-scale PvP that promises many characters on screen engaged in pitched battles, on top of world bosses.

Legend of Ymir was introduced by WeMade in 2022 and advertised as a “next-generation MMORPG” built entirely in Unreal Engine 5 using cutting-edge tech like Lumen, Nanite, MetaHuman, performance capture, ray tracing, DLSS 3, and more.

It tells the story of heroes embarking on a journey to prevent Ragnarok, the cataclysmic end of the world that repeats every 9,000 years in the mythic continent of Ymir.

You can check out the gameplay reveal trailer below and judge for yourself whether it piques your curiosity.

Now that you’ve watched the trailer, we can talk about the elephant in the room, as Legend of Ymir will include NFTs powered by WeMade’s blockchain tech, which some may be familiar with due to their previous game Mir 4 alongside the upcoming Night Crows.

Legend of Ymir was actually playable at the G-Star industry trade show in Busan, Korea, during the weekend. It’s scheduled to be released globally in 2024 for PC, iOS, and Android (which appears to be a rather popular combination of platforms nowadays).

Whether its advanced graphics and peculiar gameplay will manage to draw in a large number of players beyond the niche that has embraced NFTs and blockchain tech, the future will tell. For now, details are scarce, so we’ll have to wait and see.
