The Lack of a Comment on the KOTOR Remake From Embracer Group CEO Speaks Volumes

It has been a while since we’ve heard about an update for the Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) Remake. As Embracer continues with its layoffs, it makes a large number of people wonder about what will happen to the KOTOR Remake. In this industry, good news is shared openly while bad news is avoided. Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors refused to provide a real comment on the KOTOR Remake when asked, which doesn’t look good.

The KOTOR remake was announced back in 2021, with one of the coolest trailers for Revan I’ve seen. However, reports have sprung over over the years that the project was already in trouble. The trailer for the game has been hidden from Sony’s official YouTube channel after tweets about the game were deleted. Wingefors was asked about the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake and chose to leave gamers in the dark.

The direct inspiration for this headline.

Gamers will interpret a lack of comments as evidence that something bad has happened. The newest comment on the IGN KOTOR Remake’s trailer is “Pouring one out for my fellow KOTOR fans, we just can’t catch a break man.” It has a lot of truth to it. The comments on the tweet of Stephen Totilo, an Axios Gaming newsletter writer, seem to have the same attitude. The game may be done and over with.

I was among those who were excited about the remake and eagerly awaited news of its progress. I’m sure a lot of you are also hoping the game will release another trailer to show it’s in development or almost done. Based on what we’re seeing, that’s not going to happen.

If Embracer Group has indeed left the game to die, I hope they’ll allow another studio to take over. KOTOR is still widely considered to be the best Star Wars RPG ever made. It deserves a remake and I hope to hear some good news for it soon.
