How to fix Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) second mission not loading error

Players are reporting that the second mission in the Modern Warfare 3 is not loading. This is an error spanning all platforms and here is how to fix it.

Modern Warfare 3 campaign error: How to fix the second mission not loading

You should consider yourself lucky if you get into the MW3 campaign at all, but if you do, it’s likely that you may get stuck on an endless loading screen during the beginning of the second mission. There are currently a lot of errors and bugs in MW3 and this is just one of them.

I’ve scoured Reddit to see if others are having this problem and if a solution has been found. I found a Reddit thread started by flareable. Based on flareable’s comments and the comments of many other users, this second mission loading bug can affect PC players on Steam or BattleNet, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5.

Though there are many comments on this Reddit thread, there aren’t many solutions. The only piece of advice we have is from a comment by Osrawo who said that deleting and reinstalling MW3 and downloading the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers fixed the issue.

Restart the game and your console

Because that worked for them, I recommend closing out of MW3 and relaunching it. After trying that a few times and still getting the second mission loading error, you should try verifying your files which can be done by viewing the game in your library and finding the option in the game’s external settings.

Delete and reinstall MW3

If neither of those fixes work to overcome the second mission loading error, I recommend deleting the game and reinstalling it. This can be a major pain, especially if you have a really slow download speed like me, but it may be the only way to temporarily fix the second mission cutscene bug.

Watch COD Updates for an official fix

While we wait for an official fix, my last recommendation is to keep your eyes glued to Call of Duty Updates on Twitter (or X). Call of Duty Updates is the official location to see what the developers have identified as an issue and when they get it resolved.
