Destiny 2 Nightfall weapons – what is the Nightfall weapon this week?

Want to know what this week’s Destiny 2 Nightfall weapon is? Each week you’ve got a chance at a different weapon for completing Nightfall Strikes, and ever since Season of the Lost, fan-favourite legacy weapons from the original Destiny has been added to the rotation. New seasons often introduce new weapons into the rotation, so it’s more important than ever to know in advance the Nightfall weapon schedule.

Nightfall: The Ordeal is a playlist available in the Vanguard menu, alongside the basic Strike playlist in the free PC game. Each week, a different Strike is chosen as the Nightfall, and offered in five escalating difficulties, with harder enemies, challenging modifiers, and enemy power levels cranking up. The coveted Nightfall weapons have a chance to drop from any Nightfall Strike difficulty, but it’s far more likely at higher levels, which is something you’ll want to maximise your chances for with the Destiny 2 Lightfall release date that just passed. Your best bet for farming each week’s Nightfall weapon is to set the Strike to Master difficulty, or to Grandmaster difficulty when such strikes are available if you have a fireteam up to the task.

What is the Destiny 2 Nightfall weapon this week?

The Destiny 2 Nightfall weapon from March 14 to March 21 is the Wendingo GL2, a legendary Arc grenade launcher. A solid roll for this weapon would include Auto-Loading Holster and Cascade Point.

This week’s Nightfall strike is Hypernet Current, which is a new addition to the Nightfall rotation and is a Neomuna-based strike. In it, you will face Vex and Taken enemies. Completing the Nightfall this week grants players a chance to earn the Wendingo GL2.

Grandmaster Nightfalls will return April 11. Completing a Grandmaster Nightfall grants a chance to earn an Adept version of that week’s weapon.

Just as in Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris, Adept weapons get +3 to every stat (except impact) when masterworked, as well as the usual +10 to the masterwork stat, and are the only guns that can equip powerful Adept mods, so they’re well worth seeking out when they’re available.

Destiny 2 season 20 introduces Nightfall weapon focusing with commander Zavala. However, to focus a Nightfall weapon, you must have acquired it at least once. Focusing costs 1 Vanguard engram, 20,000 glimmer, and 50 legendary shards. Grandmaster Nightfalls will also now grant players the opportunity to collect Adept Nightfall Ciphers, the number of which changes based on the players’ Nightfall completion score. Platinum grants two shards, gold grants one shard, and silver grants no shards.

Zavala will also offer one Adept weapon for focusing each week. This will cost three Vanguard engrams, 50,000 glimmer, 50 legendary shards, and 10 Adept Nightfall Ciphers.

Destiny 2 Nightfall weapon schedule

The Nightfall weapon changes on weekly rotation with the Destiny 2 weekly reset at 5pm UTC every Tuesday. As of season 20, six weapons are currently on rotation in the Nightfall loot pool. They are:

• The Militia’s Birthright
• Buzzard
• THE SWARM
• Mindbender’s Ambition
• Wendigo GL3
• Hung Jury SR4

Destiny 2 Lightfall Nightfall updates

Destiny 2 game director Joe Blackburn and the Bungie team recently shared some updates as to what players can expect from Nightfalls come Lightfall.

This season, Battlegrounds from season 16 and season 19 will join the Vanguard Ops playlist. Further, the Mars Battleground from season 19 will appear as a Grandmaster Nightfall in season 20, with other Battlegrounds to follow in the future.

Bungie also reworked the Lake of Shadows and The Arms Dealer strikes, which have been “re-imagined and upgraded to match the combat engagement levels of some of our more recent strike entries,” according to Blackburn. Both will appear in the Nightfall rotation.

In total, four out of the game’s six Grandmaster Nightfalls will be all-new or refreshed content. Since Blackburn only references three Nightfalls in the passage, it appears a fourth Grandmaster Nightfall may be an all-new Lightfall strike.

Destiny 2 Nightfall difficulty levels

Bungie recently outlined changes in Nightfall difficulty as of Lightfall, too. There is no longer an Adept level, and the new difficulty levels are set to the following:

• Hero: 1770 Power
• Legend: 1830 Power
• Master: 1840 Power
• Grandmaster: 1840 Power

Nightfalls will also impose Power level disadvantages, set the following:

• Hero: -5 Power levels.
• Legend: -15 Power levels.
• Master: -20 Power levels.
• Grandmaster: -25 Power levels

This means the maximum effectiveness targets are as follows:

• Hero: 1765
• Legend: 1815
• Master: 1820
• Grandmaster: 1815

Bungie has also introduced a system of Surges and Threats that can make such activities easier when playing specific subclasses. Surges increase elemental damage by 25% and will have a seasonal featured element (in season 20, it will be Strand), and weekly rotating Surges (in season 20, those will be Solar and Void). Meanwhile, Threats will increase enemy elemental damage by 25%.

Nightfalls will also feature Overcharged weapons, which add 25% more damage and increase kinetic damage by 25% when using a Surging subclass. Surge damage and and Overcharges do not stack. Enemies are also now more challenging.

Finally, Nightfall challenges now require a score of 200,000 points across multiple Nightfall runs, as opposed to a score of 100,000 on a single Nightfall run.
