Hogwarts Legacy is the biggest game of the year

Hogwarts Legacy is the fastest-selling Harry Potter game in history and amazingly, the fastest-selling video game since Red Dead Redemption 2. That’s discounting FIFA and Call of Duty, but even with the disclaimer, it’s an impressive feat. Number one for a second week in a row despite sales dropping 66%, Hogwarts Legacy has currently sold 88% more copies than last year’s big Winter hit, Elden Ring.

Last-generation versions for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch have yet to be released. When those versions go on sale, bolstered by the larger install base, Hogwarts Legacy is projected to again be at the top of the chart. While it’s only February the latest Harry Potter title may be a best-seller for the rest of the year.

The rest of the chart looks the same as it has for the past month, FIFA 23 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are joined at the top by God of War Ragnarök and Mario Kart 8: Deluxe. Filling out the bottom spots are Grand Theft Auto 5 (7th) and four Nintendo Switch titles: Minecraft (6th), Nintendo Switch Sports (8th), Animal Crossing: New Horizons (9th), and Splatoon 3 (10th).

Notably, FIFA 23 and God of War Ragnarök had significant drops, 13% and 33% respectively, as their sales are finally slowing down. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe posted a second week of gains with an 18% increase.

Notably absent from the top ten for this week are any of the new releases. EA’s Wild Hearts, a new IP like Capcom’s Monster Hunter, is only number 26. Beating out the big-name release are Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line at number 16 and Tales of Symphonia: Remastered at number 17. The last new release is the smaller-scale Wanted: Dead in the 34th spot.
